Phew!

My parents' anniversary party was today. It went really well! I made a zillion cupcakes and some jam tarts and a bunch of finger sandwiches (friends helped make the sandwiches today, which was great). Other people brought green salad and fruit salad. The weather was fantastic and everyone had a good time. I, of course, am exhausted. I bought way too much booze, which is possibly unsurprising, but one of the other people bought some off me, I gave the rest of the beer to my parents, and I have four bottles of prosecco in my fridge, which is not a bad state of affairs.

I had it in the back yard of this coop apartment house which is basically full of their friends. They bought it apparently 39 years ago, and now a couple of the apartments are owned by second-generation folks. It's so nice! So I could just go over there and do the sandwiches in one of the apartments, with two of the women who are just great. So that was even fun. I had plenty of time and help to get everything done.

The only snafus were around getting everything over there -- I brought some of the paper goods etc over yesterday, to make things easier, and then took a cab today. Got the cab all loaded up (using my laundry basket, which was genius), we headed off, and then I realized I hadn't brought any of the platters, etc. YIKES. For a minute I panicked, trying to figure out what to do, and then I realized it was obvious, and just had the cab driver turn around. So that was easy! And then a bunch of the cupcakes fell over and got messed up, but one of the friends fixed up enough of them so they were fine. And still delicious!

All things considered -- especially considering I had no idea how much of anything to get -- everything went well. I had some photos of my parents, and they brought some old ones, and an old photo album, which was just excellent. Everyone loved seeing them all young. It's funny how many of their friends would deny that they had ever seen my father with no beard, but they definitely did -- he didn't have it when I was born. Man, they were young.

Oh, I just realized I left ham and cheese in the fridge over there, but if that's all I forgot, I feel pretty good about it.

In short: YAY. And happy anniversary to my parents, obviously.
