28. Dead in the Family, Charlaine Harris. I read all of the Sookie Stackhouse books in a fairly short period a year or so ago, so it's been a while. I'm glad to have had the break, because I was just reading them like a bag of chips, and it was a little much. I liked this one, and I like how she maintains the series, with a more-or-less contained story plus ongoing threads. Still have never seen the tv show.

29. A Drop of the Hard Stuff, Lawrence Block. He is one of my all-time favorites. Literally, reading his books is part of what made me want to move to New York. So it was nice to spend some more time with Matt Scudder. They are generally chronological, in real time, but this one takes him back to the 80s, when he was still newly sober. The central mystery is good, typically fucked-up, and only sort of resolved. Good times.
