It's been over a month since I have updated but, I don't have time for a real update. Things are going well. At least I think they are. It's not terrible. I have been teaching for almost a full month now and so far things seem to be working. I have my 4th graders getting started on the process of started band. I just need to get the instruments in their hands. Out of 37 4th graders I think I'm going to have about 20 joining band! I just hope I get a good retention rate out of this class. Most of my issues with students are because I expect them to do something or at least inform me when something is a problem. Mostly grades in other classes. Something is going to have to change with that. These kids are a band yet. If you have ever been in band you know what I'm talking about when I say; they are just a group of kids with instruments at this point. Nothing resembeling a band. I'm not really sure what Mr. O was doing before, but whatever it was put me in a very difficult place with this band. It's really frustrating to know that I'm suppose to be teaching music to this group and have to deal with other things instead because they just don't know. I'm not talking fingerings or music reading. I'm about things outside of my classroom. I can explain more later, right now I need to finish getting reading and head off to work. Next year will be way better stress-wise. I'll at least know what's going on when.
