So this entry is a little late, but I'd rather not backdate it since I'm going to keep this up from now on.
The following day after I found out Iowa was a no go I signed up to run the Los Angeles Marathon, as well as the LA Roadrunners Training Program. I figured it was a great way to stay active, keep myself focused, and it has also been something that I have always wanted to do, so why not do it if I'm not starting medical school! Rosa also has signed up, so at least I have a running buddy.
I'm going to attempt to update this blog on a regular basis to document my progress in this marathon training experience. So far we are in week 7 of training and will be running 9 miles this upcoming Saturday. The training so far has been challenging during the weekdays as I find it hard to wake up in the mornings, but this last week I have found some extra energy to keep it up.
Rosa and I have agreed to run along the beach on Wednesday evenings after work. I have class at UCLA at 7pm, so it's perfect timing. We figure this will come into play when our runs grow to be 80 minutes long! I can't see myself running that on my own, so having a committment to her will definitely push me to make those runs.
Last night was our first attempt at this. We ran 60 min from just before the Santa Monica pier and into Pacific Palisades. Check it out here:
Beach Run 10/08/08 I run without my ipod so that I can focus on my form, to prevent injury, and to think about all the things that have happened in my life, all that I have been through, and all that I hope to accomplish in my future.

As you can see I was very good during week 2! lol, but not so good during week 3 and 4. Ideally I'm supposed to be running 5 days a week, including the Saturday run. I need to keep this schedule or else I may not be able to keep up with my pace group in the long runs. At first Rosa and I started off in Group 10, which had a 1 minute walking break after every mile, averaging 12:15min/mile. This was too slow for us, so we moved up to Group 9, which has a 30 second walking break, averaging 11:45 min/mile. This group is comfortable enough for me, but we are going to attempt Group 8, which has no walking break, averaging 11:15min/mile, with an expected finish time of just under 5 hours, which is what we want :D
I will try to add pictures on here, but it's hard to remember to take them.
