6:17am. The familiar bleeping makes me sit up clumsily into the path of the laser projecting the time on the wall once again. I quickly lay back down and realize that in a few hours I'd be spending my last moments of high school sitting at a desk finishing my testing. The thought gives me motivation to stumble down the hall to the bathroom.
The familiar massage of heat, the curtain of cold as I step out of the shower... It's yesterday all over. But today is a blessed day. the LAST day of ever having to go back to Richard Arnold.
I peaked around the corner of the school yard and saw picnic tables and benches lining the field. It's a beautiful day... and in more than one way. I sit on the brick outside the door to the test room. The sun beats down on my back and the breeze blows around me.
"Two more questions to go until I'm finished with this whole thing. It all amounts down to this." The final two questions on my reading exam lay in front of me on the desk. Two more bubbles to fill. Two little circles to end two years of anticipation.
"69 degrees" the console says as I turn on the car. I roll down the windows and bow my head in thanks to God for all that He's provided. With a smile on my face I drive back home. Chapter number one in my life is now finished.
A new day begins.
