I made it to Japan. It is a very interesting place...I mean interesting in all the good and not so good ways...lol While I am willing to try almost anything once, foodwise there have been a couple of challenges for me...I'm sure most people really like mayonnaise, but I don't, and on pizza...yecch. I have this irrational fear of starving to death since ellie says the portions here are smaller than we eat at home. I love to travel, and I really needed a vacation and I am feeling like this is a good one...no pressure to do anything, lots of time alone, and a peaceful environment. I must also say that their idea of futons and ours are pretty different. Somehow a one-inch thick mattress is just like sleeping on a hard floor, which can be pretty uncomfortable for an old, tired body like mine.
It's great to see ellie. I have really missed her, and it is good to see all the positive changes living here has made in her. Went to see a castle Tuesday with ellie and a co-worker of hers. It was great to see the architecture. Later we went to her "friend's" home...a great honor to be invited into someone's home here...and it was fabulous in that classy yet understated way that many Japanese people I have met have.
I am also trying to get some papers in close to finished form, as they are due in a few weeks. My doctoral "capstone project" is to have the first three chapters in a semi-complete form, but there is difficulty finding some of the research I need to review. I'm hoping to find some here, with ellie's help. Also need to do some studying of Chinese for my final exam in a few weeks. I have found that I can recognize some of the Japanese kanji from the rudimentary knowledge I am getting from Medical Chinese.
Went to see one of ellie's rehearsals for a performance she will be doing later. It reminded me very much of the days when a girlfriend I had years ago was putting together shows with her ensemble in Chicago. I ended up their tech person by default, and got to see many rehearsals.
Life is good.
