I went to bed pretty late and woke up in a city, that never sleeps

So it turns out I should have eaten more than a pastry before my flight. It's not that I didn't consider the length of the scheduled flight. It's that I didn't plan us getting redirected some 60 miles North on the Hudson River to Stewart Air National Guard Base.

We were told that JFK had to switch runways because of weather reasons. Because of the change, it caused a backup of about 25 planes ahead of us that were waiting to land. We would have had to circle for 45 minutes, but we didn't have enough fuel to do that, causing the need to land at Stewart, refuel, then proceed to get in the queue for landing at JFK again. Fun. Nevermind I had someone waiting to pick me up at JFK.

One of our New York peeps, Vladamir, met me at the airport and ushered me back to the apartment on the subway. I actually don't think the subway is too confusing. Be sure to quote me on that when I make a post later this month with the title "Totally f-ing lost on Subway".

The weather went downhill in NYC basically as soon as our plane crossed into the state. I've been informed by almost every New Yorker that today was 'the coldest day of the year so far'. It rained all last night and it was around 35 degrees this morning until about noon when it hit 40. It's around 37 now and it will be in the high twenties tonight. Regardless, today was a beautiful day. The sun was out, and not a cloud in the sky.

Got my Unlimited Access MetroCard today so I can ride the subway, bus, etc as much as I need to for the month. Found out where key things are that I'm going to need: restaurants, post offices, banks, stores, bars, people. Went to Circuit City to get a wireless router for the apartment so I'm not tethered.

Going to take the mail now. Maybe more later. Some photos are up on Flickr.
