updates

i haven't updated in awhile so here i go...

it's been pretty stressful lately.  i've been in summer classes for the past 3 weeks.  i have my second lab practical tomm and my third exam on wed.  i should really be studying right now, but i decided to give myself a lil break.  my gre class also started last week.  they expect us to study for at least 12 hrs a week on top of the time we spend in class.  plus i'm also working at the bookstore and health center averaging about 30 hrs/week.  i really don't have much time for anything else i.e. fun.

I REALLY NEED A VACATION!  but i doubt that i would ever get one because i only have one weekend between my 2 summer sessions.  and during that weekend, i have to study for my gre's.  i'm gonna be so burnt out before fall classes starts and i'm so afraid that i will end up doing poorly because of that.

on a brighter note... i had an eventful day at the bookstore w/ a very rude customer who gave me a tirade (gre word meaning angry speech) after i told him that i can not give him change for his singles:
  • me: hi, can i help you?
  • man: can you give me silver change for this? (holding approx. four singles) i need quarters, dimes and nickels.
  • me: i'm sorry, but i can not open my drawer unless i have an transaction.
  • man: why not? it's not that hard for you to do! you just open your drawer and give me change!
  • me: it's company policy.  due to audit reasons, i am not able to have any no sales transactions.
  • man: fine then! if you don't want to give me change for this, then i would like my money back for this $133 book! (holding up his recently purchased textbook)
  • me: okay sir.  is this a summer session 1 textbook?
  • man: yes.
  • me: i'm sorry sir, but the all summer session 1 textbooks are final.  the last day to return was june 7th.
  • man: is that written somewhere?
  • me: it's on the top of your receipt.
  • man: i would like to speak to a manager!
  • manager: can i help you sir?
  • man: i'm blah blah blah and people should be helping each other out and blah blah blah. i want to return this textbook!
  • manager: is there a reason why you want to return this textbook?
  • man: uh...
  • manager: is it because you couldn't get change earlier?
  • man: i want to return this textbook! i did not know that all sales were final! i didn't sign anything that stated that!
  • manager: (pulls out the merchant copy of the receipt and points to the first line) sir, it states here that "sum 1 textbook sales are final."  and you signed it.

omg... this guy was sooo crazy!  i heard that he wanted one of the cups that we gave to the incoming freshman during orientation.  one of my coworkers told him who they were designated for and he yelled til they finally gave him one so he would shut up.  i guess he thought that he would have his way if he made a scene w/ me.  but he messed w/ the wrong cashier.

oh... and we caught someone who was stealing from the bookstore.  some guy took a tome (another gre word meaning large academic book) from our shelf and stuck it in his bookbag.  as he walked by me, he called one of his friends and said "i'm leaving campus right now."  then he walked out the store, out the bldg and towards the main campus road as my manager followed him.  luckily my manager was able to obtain the license tag to the car he got into. eventually the police caught the guy and charged him w/ a 500 misdemeanor for stealing the book from us and selling it to another bookstore.  it's pretty cool when people get what they deserve.

so basically the only exciting things that are happening in my life is the random stuff at the bookstore.  there's not much else going on except that i'll be going to the orioles vs. yankees game next tues.  i'm really excited to see that.  esp since we're ranked #1 the last time i checked along w/ the nats.  anyways, i should really start studying.  i'll try to update more on other things besides the bookstore.
