CD Baby

I love my job.

I'm in my second week of training at CD Baby, and I can already envision myself working at this company for years to come. So far, I've learned how to fix customers' orders regarding shipping and payments, and I get to look for fraud orders and KILL them. The orders, not the customers. I've been taught how to embezzle money from the company, and my trainer told me, "You could steal money, but we'd probably catch you eventually." They're so laid back and funny. The guy training me loves all animals except for the human ones, has a HUGE exclamation point tatooed on his back (which he had done after Bush was re-elected), and has the sharpest and quickest wit I've ever seen.

I've started responding to some of the emails CD Baby gets regarding customers' orders. A lot of the emails are just telling us how cool we are. Others are regarding missing/lost/damaged orders. CD Baby encourages our replies to be super casual and funny. I like making those instant connections with people.

Later this week we'll be getting into the artist domain; how to set up an artist's account and everything they need to do in order for us to distribute their music. I'm pumped.

Today has been a very weird mix of emotions. I was excited to go to work and felt like I was absorbing things nicely during my shift. Then I had dinner with my eldest brother at a completely silent Ethiopian restaurant (no music, but mmm...lentils) where we talked a lot about how he feels misplaced in America and can't seem to find the feeling of "home" anywhere. After Facebooking for a while after I got back to my apartment, I started in on a long overdue email to one MF. As I was writing, my phone rang... and it was him. Nutty girl that I am, he was already entered as a contact in my phone... I'm telling you, we're meant to be. It was so nice to talk to him.

So now I'm listening to Samson by Regina Spektor, thinking about last summer and the beginning of my senior year at Coe. Talk about some weird emotions.
