three and a half weeks in Perth passed like minutes. other than a long weekend in Kalbarri, about nine hours north of here, we mostly hung around the house with Natalie's dad & Annelies, drinking wine, watching movies and cooking. well, they cooked. I washed dishes. I cannot cook.
I have been on here reading everyone's posts, as always. so for those of you who have been so kind as to fill me in on all of your misadventures (here & via email), I present to you a list of my incredible Perth accomplishments:
- turning 27. because it takes a lot of personal effort to achieve a birthday. it's not like they just come around whether you try or not. Roger & Annelies took us out for sushi (yessssssss), to see beach sculptures, and to a RUGBY game (my first). we also had a mexican feast and seven different types of alcohol during what we christened the "weekend of jessica".
- watching the entire 3rd season of Weeds. because I don't watch nearly enough television.
- buying more clothes and books than will now fit in my backpack. not really an accomplishment- more of a horrible mistake. as there's no way to fix the situation at this point, I am avoiding dealing with it by simultaneously posting here & watching the ozzie Biggest Loser. hopefully this will use up enough of my attention that I will forget about the bag altogether.
- going to the beach nearly every day and not getting a sunburn. this actually was an accomplishment. it seems I have finally learned the lesson of sunscreen. as a side note, the beaches here are gorgeous...
- visiting wineries and breweries. the true pulse of Australia. I bought a case of wine. and drank it.
- eating enough Il Gelato to fill an entire frequent buyer card. you absolutely cannot judge me if you have not tried it. 99% fat free, 1% crack.
- trying capers. this taster's review: small, and not nearly so gross as olives. good on pizza and smoked salmon & cream cheese bagels. who knew? (apparently everyone.)
- spending approximately 300x my allotted budget for Western Australia. YEAH!
red eye to Melbourne tonight. Annelies just walked in the door so I'm going to go complain to her about my stupidly small bag. out!
