Title: Crumbling Between The Fingers
Fandom: Doctor Who
Pairings: Doctor/River Song
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: The Doctor belongs to River Song. And the poem it's mine either.
A/N: Absolutely love this poem. I wrote this a month ago so I can't remember if it was based on anything in particular, I was going through a mythological stage at the time so it quite clearly had it's influence.

CRUMBLNG BETWEEN THE FINGERS

One day the ground beneath her feet began to crumble, to disintegrate and slowly drift away, like the love that once shone in his ancient eyes.

They had risen beyond their limits, the two of them hand in hand, and then fallen so much further, stars filling the vast distance between them.

UNDER THE FEET

She raged against the suns and the planets that orbited them and the moons that circled the planets.

From planet to planet she roamed, pushing the moons aside in the hope of glimpsing her lost loves face one last time.

She stood before the suns and demanded their reunion. She begged, scrabbling in the dirt for word of him, but they would grant her nothing.

The life between her fingers and toes crumbled away. The skin behind her knees flaked. Her cheeks cracked with a valley of unshed tears.

Her will was all, but scorched to dust when at last she saw his face again on a planet filled with every story ever written, even her own.

CRUMBLING BEHIND THE EYES

By now there was little left of her. A strained smile, a dusty greeting and desperate hope.

But the suns and the planets that orbited them and the moons that circled the planets had tricked her with a false gift for they were tired of her threats and the sorrow she constantly doused them in.

So they gave her the man she loved. Beautiful, but empty. A ghost of what she wanted.

Her hearts turned to dust. The love vanished from her body as she crumbled and gave way to a death ever lasting.

One sun and a planet filled with every story ever written, even her own and a moon to protect it hold the imprint of her ghost, because her unwitting love; a healer, promised not to let her go story unsaved.
