A/N: I do love book shopping, brought a brick of a book on Encyclopedia on Mythology yesterday, I didn't think I'd be raiding it for idea's quite so soon, but when I came across The River Of Forgetfulness I was like "Hello, Sweetie!". Obviously stories vary, so I've used a few sources other that the book and it's just a small piece so I didn't do much more than 20 minutes of research into it. I hope it sits well with River character, I tried to capture something of her character among those of the goddess, I figured both their existences must be very lonely.
Rough summary Of Lethe; River Of Forgetfulness: For a soul to be cleansed of it's sins and recarnated they must choose the life they wish to lead and cross (or drink from) the River of Forgetfulness.

She is the daughter of strife.
Her own Mother slept her childhood away beside a crack that span the whole of time and space, dreaming of her raggedy Doctor, unaware that each night, as she waited, someone she had once loved was wiped from existence.
She is at one with and a sister of pain and starvation, of the fight and the battles that have been waged for and against her. She recognises the hand of ruin as her own and the blood that stains them. She is a murderess, she is lawless and she is just. She knows the lies behind her oath and the oath behind her lies. She toils away each day soothing the very quarrels her existence creates, the disputes in the fabric of time.
She runs and stumbles across the sheer impossibility of herself, the waters of time falling up between her fingers to fill her palm.
She is backwards.
She hides from the moon.
They all cross her waters, even her enemies, but most excruciatingly the souls she loves, and they forget. They forget they ever loved her, saved her, bore her to this existence, and with a great clap of thunder they are swept away on the currents of her past and onto their new lives.
She is the River of Forgetfulness.
