My housemate and I invented this 'in it for the anecdotes' concept when we realised that we kept seeming to find ourselves at parties, or doing things that held no real appeal for us, but that provided us with brilliant stories to retell later. This mostly applies to parties being held by friends of friends, you know, the ones where you suddenly look around and think 'what am I doing here? Who are these people and what are they talking about?'
We even have imaginary 'I'm only in this for the anecdotes' t-shirts that we mime putting on just before we go into situations such as these which, we believe, give us strength.
The great thing about 'wearing' these t-shirts is that you never know how it's going to turn out. Sometimes you have a fantastic time and meet a whole bunch of people who actually turn out to be awesome. Sometimes.... well sometimes you don't, but that's life, right? At the end of the day, even if something is total rubbish, we have the stories to laugh about later.
This might all seem to be coming out of left field, but it comes in reaction to the realisation I had, upon awaking this morning, that this is going to be an 'I'm only in this for the anecdotes' kind of day. For better, for worse.
I better go and make sure that my imaginary t-shirt is clean!
p.s. Check me out, I just blogged about something completely unrelated to my writing. How momentous!
