CALL FOR WRITING
EXPERIENCES OF TRANS-INCLUSIVITY AT MICHIGAN WOMYN’S MUSIC FESTIVAL 2009
Over the past few years, things have been changing at Michigan that
signal a real on-the-ground shift in the relationship between the
Festival and trans-identified people and their allies. Trans folks
and their allies, who previously did not attend because of their
political determination to end the womyn-born-womyn only attendance
policy, are beginning to go to Michigan. And they are attending in
large enough numbers (adding to the already existing trans/ally
community at Festival) to effect a change in the culture there.
Officially, the policy hasn’t changed. But culturally, something is
shifting. We are collecting writing from people who attended MWMF
this last year or two, either for the first time or returning after an
absence due to politics around trans-inclusion. At the 10-year
anniversary of the 2nd manifestation of Camp Trans, it is important to
collect stories that mark the social and political changes to the
landscape of not only the Festival, but also the specific form of
feminism it represents.
We will collect these pieces over the next several months. The end
product is not fully determined, but we aim to produce a document that
will be available for mass distribution at next year’s MWMF and Camp
Trans. We also hope to reach broader audiences through publishing in
both print and online media.
We are looking for any sort of writing about your experiences at MWMF
in 2009: article, personal story, poetry, comics, manifesto, etc. No
minimum or maximum word/page count.
Please email your work to s.strikeback@gmail.com
Thank you!
In solidarity,
