I just found out that my roommate's favorite singer is Janet Jackson, so she's letting me listen to her latest album. Apparantly it's her most... 'sexually explicit' yet, so I'm interested to see if it lives up to my expectations.
Man, I have no idea what to write here, 'cause I've been up to quite a bit these past few weeks!!!
I guess the album picture thing didn't work, so... sorry 'bout that. But, I'm gonna slightly cheat and include a link to my sis' journal, (
stardust_amy) 'cause there a few relevant pictures there.
Um... Well, overall, things are going really well. I'm stressed, but it's mostly school-related, and nothin' unexpected or too overwhelming, so I'm pleasantly surprised! Knowing my propensity towards an anxiety/depression cycle, I feel relatively normal.
My classes are interesting, not incredibly challenging, but I'm not complaining! I'm liking the twist taken towards social work vs. psychology. Social work focuses on more qualitative research than quantitative, so you learn more details about the subjects you study, rather than the mean score on a survey before and after a treatment. Hopefully I start my internship next week... at the YWCA for a school-based counseling program with middle- and high schoolers. I have a meeting with my clinical supervisor tomorrow.
I'm making friends and stuff, too! Deanna, my roommate, is someone I feel fairly comfortable talking to already, and we've had a couple of excursions out and about the town. Went to IKEA last week for a TV stand, and went to an art and wine festival in Mountain View yesterday. Got a cool pop-culturey print (
www.delanuez.com; and a couple of magnets that reminded me of my dad's childhood, living on a farm in Minnesota.
I'm also hanging out with Diana, from my classes. We eat our lunch together between classes and bitch about the reading assignments. We're also starting to talk about things other than school-related, so it's turning into a friendship, rather than peer-acquaintance.
I've been drinking more than I used to in Santa Barbara, which seems slightly ironic, wouldn't you say?! Nothing crazy, I never will, nor could be. I feel really sick if I drink to the point of intoxiation more than 2 times a week. But, that's what I've been averaging the past couple of weeks. Been to an apartment party, which reminded me of a good IV one. There were lotsa people, music, and free-flowing drinks. What more could one ask for?! Also been to the bars a couple of times. Once with my old friend from UCSB, who is also going to San Jose State now, I randomly ran into him at the bookstore! That was cool, because although it's good and fun to make new friends, I also like rekindling old ones. Less work, you know?
Saw Michelle a couple of weeks ago, went to the Curiosa festival with her. She may visit me this coming weekend in San Jose, which would be great! We'll see Franz Ferdinand in San Francisco next week, also fun. I'm tempted to see Muse the day before, but I dunno with school and the like.
I'm totally listing things, so I apologize in advance. Once I regularly post again (I'm not gonna hold my breath in the meantime though) I will try and be witty once again. I'm just tryin' to do the most objective and therefore boring update.
I'm kinda seeing this boy, too. He is sweet and shy. He's an Illustration major, and although an undergrad, he did the community college thing for a while, so he's close to my age. His 23rd is in a couple of days, so his friends are taking him out to dinner and I'll probably go, too. I dunno... I always say I shouldn't jump into another relationship, and then I go ahead and do exactly that. We shall see. I dunno, I dunno!
Okay, I'm going for a run now. Still planning on doin' the marathon in October! Went on a long run last week of 16 freakin' whole miles! Took me a long time to do and to recover, but I did it. Anyway, I felt the lj update bug biting me, so I finally itched that f*****. See yas!
