are relationships always informed by the manner in which they began?

this post inspired by omnia_mutantur .  i had to share.

yes.  at least, i think so.
i think that's why we'll be 10 years old until the day our parents die.  and why our cats will love us always and forever.  and why friends move apart when they're no longer the people they were when they first met.
i think that's the difference between love and friendship.  love means that you're continually finding new firsts together.  friendship means that you're building on the firsts.  i think that's why you can have friendships without love, but not love without friendship.

i think it's ok to be an island, all by your onesies.  i'm big into "self do" lately.  but i absolutely refuse to be so far out from shore that no one can get to me.  sometimes the bridge is washed out, but i always try to keep the ferry running.  and sometimes, i cross the bridge and hang out on mainland for a while.  it doesn't meant that i'm not still self sufficient.  i mean, i'm still holding up my share of the bills, and taking care of myself physically (mostly), and sometimes even taking care of others.

either that, or i'm babbling semicoherent gibberish in someone else's dream.

but that would be ok too.
