The Election is approaching, but I don't think my friends are paying close attention to the candidates. I thought it would be a good idea to have a blog on Obama and McCain beliefs and issues. Obviously, this post is biased. I support Obama more than McCain for numerous reasons, but I will not shoot you down if you like McCain more. Choose for yourself. Who do you think will make a better president?
Obama
He is a 46-year-old, half-black man of change. God knows we need that.
Economy
-Provide the middle class tax relief
-Invest in a clean energy economy and create 5 million new green jobs
-Ensure freedom to unionize
-Raise minimum wage
Illegal immigration
-Secure the borders
-Crack down on employers who hire illegal immigrants
-Force current illegal immigrants to pay a fine, learn English, and file for legal status
-Promote economic development in Mexico
Iraq
-A responsible, phased withdrawal
-Most troops will leave, but a few will stay to target al Qaeda. This will ultimately encourage Iraqi leaders to take charge of their country again.
-Stabilize Iraq and its neighbors diplomatically
Education
-Create the American Opportunity Tax Credit: The first $4,000 of a college education is absolutely free. This helps the middle class.
-Reform No Child Left Behind: Teachers should educate kids about college and the workplace rather than worry about standardized tests.
-Ensure the efficiency of America’s teachers
Poverty
-Help areas of poverty and low academic achievement.
-Force divorced mothers and fathers to pay child support
Ethics
-Supports abortion as the choice of the woman
-Supports gay marriage
-Believes in the power of science
McCain
He is a 71-year-old traditional white man.
Fun Fact: If he wins the election, he will be the oldest American president ever.
Economy
-Offer relief from high gas prices
-Cut taxes for middle class Americans
-Tax rates will remain low
Iraq
-Encourage Iraq’s economy
-Remain in Iraq until the job is done and refuses to give the people a specific time for withdrawal
Education
-Parents should be able to choose the school that they want their kids to attend
-Higher standards for schools
Immigration
-Secure the borders
-Assimilation: Illegal immigrants should learn the American language and customs
-Keep a flexible labor market
-Build strong relations with Latin America
Energy
-Drill in new places for oil: This will break foreign dependency on oil, but it will also cause resistance from environmentalists.
-Find alternate solutions to the energy crisis
-Limit greenhouse gases
Ethics
-Does not believe in abortion
-Does not believe in gay marriage
-Believes in stem cell research
