NAPWC launches national Spring Field tour with Alvin Tolentino
Canadian audiences and dance lovers will have the rare opportunity to partake in the launching of the national Spring tour of Field by world-renowned Canadian dancer and choreographer, Alvin Tolentino. Inspired by the triumph, loss and the re-birth of harvest life, Tolentino and his contemporary dance productions have been hailed as "A serious tour de force, Tolentino stretches our understanding of what dance can be (The Vancouver Sun)".
In partnership with the National Alliance of Philippine Women in Canada, all proceeds of Field will benefit the Purple Rose Campaign (PRC), an international campaign to end the sex trafficking of Filipino women and children. The tour will commence in Toronto and culminate in Winnipeg.
Toronto and Montreal audiences will have the added pleasure to meet with the international spokesperson of the PRC, Ninotchka Rosca, a New York-based, award-winning author and leading feminist at a post-performance panel presentation and reception. In addition, a silent art auction will also be showcased during the reception in Toronto and Montreal.
As an awareness campaign, the PRC seeks to educate the public about the traumatic realities of sex trafficking of Filipino women and children. It has been launched respectively in major cities across Canada, the United States, Australia and in various countries in Europe and Asia, including Hong Kong and the Philippines.
Field will be held in Toronto on May 2, 2007 at the Betty Oliphant Theatre, in Montreal on May 8, 2007 at the MAI (Montreal, Arts Interculturel), and in Winnipeg on May 24th, 2007 at the Winnipeg Contemporary Dance Theatre. This project is also in partnership with Canada Council of the Arts, Winnipeg Contemporary Dance Studio Theatre, and the MAI (Montreal, Arts Interculturel).
