Today, I sat down and finally got to watch "Justice League: The New Frontier" and it desperately made me wish that DC Comics would have revealed this movie in theaters and not straight to DVD.
I'm not going to post spoilers or anything, but I want to say that everyone who has ever had a passing interested in the Justice League of America or any of the hero origin stories needs to see this movie.
The story and dialogue was gripping and very well woven. We followed the story of what the world was like after World War II and during the McCarthy Era of US history. There were several references and actual history happenings that were threaded throughout this film to make me believe that this is what would have happened if we had super heroes. We were able to see what effect the McCarthy Era would have on super heroes, how they would be used, and how they were pushed away by ignorance and fear of anything different.
This movie humanized and individualized the Justice League of America. I felt for the characters in a way I have never tried to before. Heroes were brought down to my level and I felt like I could connect to them, they were no longer "worshipped" as perfect people who are so different from humanity.
"Justice League: The New Frontier" was strong enough to make me forget I am watching an animated film and I sat back and totally dived into the story.
Favorite Scene: The Flash (Barry Allen) comparing himself to Superman and Batman, stating that he could never compete on their level because he only catches jewelery thieves and fights talking gorillas, not saving the world.
I liked this scene because it's the first time I can recall a hero putting himself down by comparing himself to other super heroes. It's so human and realistic for him to do that. It's just.. amazing.
Watch "Justice League: The New Frontier".
Please discuss the movie with me if you've seen it. I'd love to chat about it.
