Seriously, people, I'm sick of hearing about this. Yes, the Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012.
Your calendar likely ends on December 31, 2009. Does life as we know it blink out every time a calendar stops? No.
Where does the Mayan calendar begin? On a rare galactic event the Mayans called The Sacred Tree. The Sun joins with the intersection of the Milky Way and the "plane of the ecliptic".
So where does the calendar end? On the very same event. The calendar was calculated specifically between these particular occurrences, just as a certain Gregorian calendar we know calculates a solar year. Once we've reached December 31, 2009, what happens? The Gregorian calendar starts over. What happens when we reach December 21, 2012? The damned Mayan calendar starts over.
So, can we please stop with all the sensational bullshit? It's a little aggravating.
