November 7 - 9:21am - Naima Madalyn Chen

After only less than 8 hours of labour, Naima Madalyn Chen was born at 921am on November 7th.

If you want me to spare you the details, you can stop reading here.

Jess began having contractions around 130am on Nov 7th. She wasn't sure if they were cramps or contractions, so nothing serious and we just went to bed. At about 230am, Jess wakes me up and said that she thinks she's having contractions. So we timed them. 30-45 seconds every 8-10 minutes. Hmmmm...interesting. We learned not to freak out and just hold off until the contractions get closer. At about 430am, it became 1 minute contractions every 5 minutes. Ok, now I'm freaking out a bit as I wasn't sure to hold off from going to the hospital. I call our midwife and doulla, and our doulla got to our house at about 530am. Jess' back was in so much pain, which was worse than the actual contractions. Our doulla gave Jess a tension machine and a herbal remedy that actually help Jess sleep through 1.5 hours of those contractions. By about 7am, Jess immediately said that she felt the urge to push. I make the call to the mid-wife and she said that we should head to the hospital and they'll meet us there. We get to the hospital at about 8am and Jess was indeed pushing. Naima was born at 921am and she was not a fussy baby when she came out. In fact, she laid there with mommy and I was just balling my eyes out. I look at Jess and she was as calm as a cucumber. I cut the cord and called our parents and Jess' brother letting them know that Jess delivered baby Naima. They began to make their way to the hospital and we got moved into the maternity ward in the hospital. Because the birth was completely natural and with very little complications, we were able to leave the hospital that same day at around 630pm. Went home, had dinner and began our sleepness nights with Naima.

People say that the second one should be even easier. I tell them, park that idea and let me enjoy our first child. Let's see how this goes before thinking about number 2.

We're doing well now and have gotten Naima onto a schedule. So our sleepness nights are predictable and manageable. All the waking up in the middle of the night is so worth it when I have Naima in my arms or on my chest. So precious and a miracle from God. I can't explain it anymore. We're grateful and blessed to have a healthy baby. 7 pounds and 2 ounces.

I'll keep you posted with pictures down the road!
