The reason that things seem to be falling apart is because people are not taking the past into account. If you only pay attention to the present for justification, then it will be ridiculous nonsense, but bringing the past into play makes more sense.

Hey what do you say to ransacking us some poor innocent 17 year old virgins in a drunken stupor come Christmas break? I bet we could find some up and coming high school flowers. Or we could hold ourselves up in some living room smoke some weed, sip some rum and talk of Ramen Years and college. Thoughts?
