Last night sean and i went to "Windows of Genius: Artwork of the Prodigious Savant" an artshow with works of the only artistic savants in the world(there are only 100 savants documented in history) and then a lecture by Darrell Treffert: The worlds leading expert on Savant Syndrome. He lives in Fond Du Lac! Treffert is so witty, intelligent of course and has some great theories! He has a theory called "genetic memory" which is sometimes also referred to as the "collective unconscious". Treffert believes that when youre born your brain already has a full memory card that carries a "a reservoir of the experiences of our species"-Jung. i.e. the ability to remember passed experiences/thoughts/visuals seen,etc. of ones ancestors.
And that is how the prodigious savant recieves their remarkable talent. Most savants, in fact all the savants ever documented have never even picked up a paint brush or instrument or taken classes in there lives. many autistic savants are recognized during childhood and some inherit their savant syndrome after experiencing a severe brain injury or dementia.
