Just a quick college survey I filled out for a friend.
1.) Age: 20
2.) Gender: Male
3.) How many semesters of college have you been enrolled in? I’ve been in college for 2 years now (completed six semesters and this is the 7th for me [includes summers and winters sessions]).
4.) What is the biggest stressor about being in college?
(grades/GPA, finances, transportation, etc.)
For me, grades would have to be the biggest stressor. My parents have promised to pay for my undergraduate education as a gift and I have a reliable car. I make enough money to pay off bills, so I sit pretty comfortably with my living situation. I’m really fortunate and appreciative to have a nice load off of my shoulders.
5.) How does this stressor affect your mental health?
It drives me nuts! For me, grades are representative of my hard work ethic (even though it is not necessarily). I have low self-esteem so my work ethic represented through my grades is one of the aspects of life I can feel good about.
I remember one time, I began hyperventilating before having to take a test because my sister had taken the textbook I needed to study with on accident and I was immensely unprepared for the test. I began getting dizzy and ended up spraining my ankle as I turned a corner on my way to my car to head to school. I ended up emailing the professor in order to make it up at a later date.
