10 Years Ago:
1. I lived on Gramercy Place in Los Angeles next door to my uncle, whose dad is my dad’s cousin and has the same birthday as me (December 30th). December 30th is the celebration day of Jose Rizal in the Philippines so my uncle was named Rizal. My uncle named my guy cousin Rizalo and my girl cousin Rizali.
2. I attended Van Ness Elementary School in the Los Angeles Unified School District as a third grader in Mrs. William’s fourth grade class. They chose five third graders that they thought could hang and keep up with the fourth graders for experimental integration classes. I was one of them and I owned a purple Pochacco pencil box. There was a rumor around school that Mrs. Williams wore a wig. I never found out if she really did.
3. I had a crush on a Filipino girl named Melanie. Kids teased her about liking me and she cried claiming that she did not. She really did though. We met in Mr. De Quiero’s class in second grade. Mr. De Quiero was a Filipino teacher in his early twenties. He was my hero and is probably one of the main reasons I want to become a teacher.
4. Riz, Riza, my sister, my brother, and I would all get together Saturday nights and watch Snick on Nickelodeon at each others’ houses. We loved "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" and "All That." This was old school Snick when Lori Beth Denberg was on the show and even before Kenan and Kel got their own show. I remember the order went: "Clarissa Explains It All," "All That," "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" and "Pete and Pete."
5. Riz and I were bike fanatics and we would bike all around the neighborhood. I even bought a radio flashlight for my own bike from Toys ‘R Us and I remember the first song that played when I first installed it was "Always Be My Baby" by Mariah Carey. I had a red bike, Riz had an blue bike, and our friend Jordan had an orange bike. One time I was roller blading, I hung onto the back seat of Riz’ bike and tripped over a rock and my knee and the concrete floor made friction while Riz kept on peddling. It was white for awhile and then it started gushing out blood. I still have that scar on my knee.
5 Years Ago:
1. Michael Young and I both wore the same K-Swiss shoes. We wanted to get matching shoes for the next time we bought shoes but we had too much disagreement. So we just bought our own different ones.
2. Stacy Iwata and I went to Six Flags because we were in ASB. We were waiting in line for Goliath only to find out we had to attend an inspirational leaders meeting. So we had to go back to the entrance to get out of line and everyone was calling us pussies because they thought we were backing out of the ride.
3. My first rollercoaster I rode was Boomerang at Knott's. I had to take off my eyeglasses only to find that I had an eyeglass tan and I also lost my wallet because it fell out of my pocket while on the ride.
4. I would chill every morning with Jackie Nicolas while she put on her make-up in front of Alvarado Intermediate School because both of our parents had to leave early for work. Jackie Nicolas does not remember me at Alvarado at all.
5. I was with Nicole Shimoda for a year and a half and we would attend Learnstar every Tuesday after school. We also loved listening to Destiny's Child's "The Writings on the Wall", playing Dance Dance Revolution, and playing "You Don't Know Jack."
1 Year Ago:
1. Jackie Nicolas and I were walking through the halls from AP Statistics class only to hear a Black guy say in his deep voice, "You gon' get yo' dick chopped off!"
2. Shannie Yu and I had six classes together our senior year until she switched out of anatomy and into forensics. We then had five.
3. Wednesdays were my busiest days because I had school from 7:00 AM - 2:00PM, offseason tennis practice from 2:00PM -3:00PM, sectionals at Juan's house from 3:30PM - 6:30PM, confirmation class from 7:00 - 8:30, and church choir practice from 8:30PM- 10:00 PM.
4. I dressed up as Statue of Liberty for Halloween and sang "Beauty and the Beast" with Alisa Galper horribly for Sing-a-thon. We then (along with Jessica Sedillo and friends) went trick-or-treating.
5. I broke Melissa Del Aguila's dance virginity by taking her to Homecoming. I also ruined our Homecoming picture by doing a silly pose when everyone else wasn't.
Yesterday:
1. I discovered that one of my poor performing 3rd grade students scored well on a test because I successfully taught her learn how to round numbers!
2. I was devising ways to get an A in my public speaking class. It's my only B! =(
3. My sister and I went to the Embassy Suites in Brea as a debut venue possibility. I love the Egyptian theme and I love when it rains!
4. My sister and I then went to the renovated McDonald's on Fairway only to find (surprise, surprise) Melanie Galang buying $1 nuggets. I kept Melanie's used Kleenex so I could do some weird African voodoo on it to get her to like me.
5. I led a very inspirational activity as an aide for my confirmation class. Afterwards, I got home and watched The Real World: Austin only to find more support as to why Nehemiah's stupid.
