I'm trying something new for my links to crossposted entries (now with little!dudes icons). So there's something I said earlier today in yesterday's entry (here:

), about the Mexican influenza-like epidemic.
I actually don't know what to think. They say that yes, it is an epidemic, but is (on its way to be) controlled, as the number of newly detected cases is decreasing every day -- it would be a bigger problem if it grew exponentially as mayor epidemics do (we are talking about over a hundred newly infected daily -- a thousand total, with 68 deaths, 20 confirmed & 48 pending, until yesterday).
But if the data they gave is true, then the number had been decreasing for at least three days before they closed schools on Friday -- so if whatever they were doing was working, although slowly, why the sudden urgency? Why don't wait until Monday? And yesterday they closed the cinemas, museums, theaters, stadiums and libraries. All of them will very likely remain closed the next week.
Even the Mexican Episcopate (the Christian Church) was thinking about avoiding mass this Sunday -- so far they've announced all the people entering a church should use a mask to cover their mouth and nose (the Army and the Health Department are giving masks for free in the streets), and not touch other people (not hand-shaking, no cheek-kissing).
And they wonder why people feels the government is not being completely honest. Thankfully, the public opinion right now is along the lines of "ok, I'll do what you say, but once this ends you'll have to explain a lot". Luckily, I'm not in one of the states affected; unluckily, my state gets thousands of visitors daily, from all around the country and the globe. I suspect we'll be affected, hopefully not with the epidemic ... but economically? You can bet.
ETA: From the 9:00 pm news,
Classes in Mexico City and other two states (Estado de México and San Luis Potosí) will not start until May 6, maybe later;
Suspected cases are now up to 1,324 -- in 16 of the 32 Mexican States;
Sunday Mass in Mexico City and Estado de México has been suspended; it will be transmitted via TV tomorrow.
New cases suspected now in Kansas and New York City.
