I lived in the Dallas area for eight weeks some years ago, and the lady I was living with had a recording of Martin Luther King's speech in her car. I heard part of it in our way to Louisiana, where we spent tath year's 4th of July :). I looked for the text later, and return to it now and then.

The closest thing Mexico has is not really a speech, but a battle cry. The Grito de Dolores was uttered by the priest Miguel Hidalgo and Costilla in 1810, thus beginning Mexico's battle for its independence. What's important about it is the yearly re-enacment in September 16 (I've never understood why people in the USA seems to believe Mexico's most important patriotic date is the Cinco de Mayo).

It is quite something to hear your President cry 'Viva México!' three times (among another assorted cries) while waving the Mexican flag, and at the same time listen to half a million people cry back 'Viva!' in every occasion, as well as the ringing of the same bell Hidalgo's rang almost 200 years ago. And that's only in Mexico City. Every city and town re-enacts it too, but none gathers as big an audience as that of Mexico City.

I am looking for a copy of Obama's speech. From what I've heard, it was quite good. I'm still bothered on behalf of Hillary Clinton's years of experience, when compared to Obama's; but apparently he seems to be a better candidate than her, so there.

As for the hurricane, we still are on green alert. There are very low chances that something wiill happen at my city, but we'll undoubtely have a cloudy, rainy weekend.
