It sounds interesting ...

Has anybody read The Uglies Trilogy? From the main Wikipedia article:

"The Uglies series is a young adult book series by Scott Westerfeld. The story follows a teenage girl named Tally who lives several centuries from now in a futuristic city where people are called "Uglies" until they become 16, when they are given a surgery that transforms them into glamorous "Pretties", and they go to live in the nicer part of the city. The point of this operation is to stop wars and disagreements among people just because they look differently from each other, and it is later discovered that the operation gives people brain-damage (e.g. brain lesions), eliminating disputes, anger, unhappiness, or a desire to be different."

It sounds both worthy and with high chances to be a dissapointment. Plus, there are only the first two books in the bookstore (and they are only in English -- I'm not complaining, just didn't know they had books in English other, than the Harry Potter ones). But it is an interesting premise; makes me think of Beggars in Spain, somewhat.

books, language: english, scifi
