I'm gonna try to make this short and not as detailed as I could simply because I've never been good at LJ cuts, and don't feel like trying. It's 12:30 am in LA (3:30am Raleigh time). I'm actually really tired, and I won't be able to catch up on any of this sleep for the next four days. I really want to put up some pics I've taken, but they are on Adam's laptop right now, and I'm typing this on Mills'. Some of you have gotten some cell phone text messages with choice pics; you are the fortunate few. Anywho, on to the meat of this entry.
Monday night:
I got to the hotel around 8:30pm. Mills and Adam went to see Jimmy Kimmel Live, but I didn't get here in time. Oh well, no big deal. I took a shower, watched 24. I had to buy a book pre-flight b/c Jacob wasn't on my cross-country flight like I first thought. I bought The Da Vinci Code due to sheer lack of knowledge for good reading material. 100 pages in, and I'd call it a good book. I wrapped up my night reading that, passing out at 11:30pm with the book in hand.
Tuesday pre-morning:
I call this pre-morning b/c no one in their right minds should ever call me at this time. My mom called me at 5:30am my time to ask me if I sent her a text message to her phone containing a picture of me. (wtf?) She said she couldn't tell if the pic was of me, but it looked a lot like me. So... my own mom can't tell her son apart from Joe Everyguy. Great. Then, at 8:00am my time, Shanna called me to say that she was in Dallas (her layover to get to Ontario Airport in LA). It was a nice talk, but I was super exhausted still. I've learned that I don't sleep well.
Morning:
Mills woke me up at 8:45am to get dressed. We were going to try to sneek into the Nintendo Press Conference. It was being held at the Kodak Theatre (of Academy Awards fame) 3 blocks away from the hotel (and directly next to our Metro stop). We dressed up; button down shirts and ties. We get there 20 minutes before it starts to scope out security. Only people with passes getting in. Shit. Here's the plan: We're with the News and Observer. The guy with our passes had a delayed flight, and we can't reach him via cell phone. Mills talks to the ushers while I overact in the background leaving a pissed off voicemail to "Steve," our imaginary third correspondent. Turns out, we need to go downstairs. There's a person with a list of names. Downstairs, Mills talks while I continue the atmospheric background frustration of not being able to contact "Steve." Mills asks a woman who needs to call back a lady already heading into the theatre. This second woman has a packet of passes, but it's 9:28 and she wants to get into the conference. After hearing our "predicament" she asks Mills who we're with (the N&O of course), and just hands him two passes! Talk about timing! No name checking or second-guessing. My frustrated background overacting sealed the deal. Mills and I giddily scampered inside. All I can say is that the Press Conference was amazing. Three seats to my right sat Kristin Holt, the host of Cheat! on G4!!! I even got a press kit! I love E3.
Afternoon:
Went to Universal Citywalk. Ate at Bucca di Beppo, an Italian place. We ate their last year too. Lots of food, and it was good. Took the Metro to Union Station to buy our week-long Metro passes. For $14, we can ride the Metro rails and Metro buses all we want. It's a great deal. From Union, we went to the LA Convention Center. Gotta pick up those badge holders! The G4 booth looks cool as hell again this year. Morgan Webb, The Sess, and others were doing the E3 Live show. She is just as pretty in person as I remembered. I'm gonna get those autographs from them this year, even if I have to wait over an hour in line! G4 really should stay with their videogame programming. That's why I loved it so much. Too bad it's going down the shitter.
Evening:
Took the bus to USC's campus. The Trojans have a great looking campus, and some great looking girls. Bought Lexy and Janelle a souvenir from the USC bookstore. Took the Metro rail back to Hollywood and Highland. Ate at the In N Out Burger. Their menu consisted of: a double cheeseburger, a cheeseburger, a hamburger, and french fries. The rest was drinks! What a menu, eh? The guys and I ended the night in the room reading about MicroSofts's press conference and playing 4-player Tetris DS. I sucked at that.
And with that, I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I'll have tons of pics and more. The first day of E3 2006 is only hours away. Stay tuned.
