OK, so today was a busy day. I went up into the city today to train, and the training went pretty well actually. The first time I went to this school, which is an all-Macintosh district, we had LOTS of problems. We still have some problems running in non-IE browsers but alot of them have been nullified, oddly enough, by the release of Firefox 3.
Today the assistant principal at one of the buildings was talking about her experience at the Apple store. I have to record it here for posterity. She was there with a problem in the Nike+ device that talks to your iPod and records your running distance, speed, etc. So she walks into the store and the guy at the door noticed that she had two daughters. Yee-haw, whatever, right? He goes, "Do you want a boy?" And here she thought he was offering to be the father of her next kid or something, but he said that he had a sure-fire way to conceive a boy. He wanted to talk to her husband, and he went about explaining the...errr...carnal positions required to conceive an XY child. So weird. Her husband was floored at the level of service.
So anyway, I'm like "there's an Apple store near here?" Oh yeah, the mall is only like 10 minutes from the school - and it was. It's the Oakwood Center, which is a mall. Great. Except it's FACKING HUGE - "anchor" stores at regular malls, like Sears and Macy's, that sort of thing, were all three and four levels tall and there were about 300 stores on the directory. So I finally found the Apple store and found it to be a reasonable experience. I was pretty impressed with the whole retail service, and the bags they give you are pretty
stonking great. They all knew what they were talking about and were very friendly. Nobody tried to push anything onto me and allowed me to wander around the store for about an hour. I bought a new aluminum keyboard, which I'd used a couple times before, all at the aforementioned all-Mac school district. It looks hot with my Mini, and part of me wants a Mighty Mouse. The rest of me wants a functional mouse that lets you click both mouse buttons at the same time and doesn't randomly bring up the dashboard if you accidentaly squeeze it too tight or whatever. So I'll stick with my Microsoft wireless mouse which is pretty awesome, for a Microsoft product.
Tomorrow I train elsewhere in Chicagoland then I get to go home. I can hardly wait, and I'm not really looking forward to 72 hours from now when I go out training again for five nights. Bleah. I'm worn out.
