I am certainly not a typical american mother. Emily is the child, and she knows it. I have a spanking spoon, it's a wooden spoon with a smiley face on one side, and a frown face on the other. I bring it everywhere, and all I have to do is show it to her, and she stops acting up. Everyone that has ever eaten with her/met her/babysat her, comments on how well behaved she is.

Not that I condone what is commonly referred to as "child abuse", but I am happy that someone is raising their kids not to be soft little whiny shits. We sure as hell were not given "time outs" or any of that kind of stuff. We had the belt, the hand, going outside to break off a switch off a tree. And we learned. At least, that is the way it was with me.

Thank you for not being the typical American parent. And, the happy/sad spoon of spanking. Innovative. I like it.

Babies are the way they are because they don't know how else to express themselves. Crying is their mode of communication.
Plus, I don't really agree with extensive corporal punishment. It only starts the child out thinking that it's okay to hit people.
I know how frustrating a baby gets when they won't go to sleep and you need sleep to go to school the next day. I raised my two year old sister since birth and raising a baby is hard work. But, you just have to be calm about it.
