LJ treeview friends network browsing tool

I fell off the not-programming wagon and produced a web page for browsing networks of LJ friends, which you can play with here (as long as you enable javascript and use Firefox, Internet Explorer doesn't work - hooray!) for the bargain price of suggesting improvements.

more detail than you want )

Will Robinson warning! warning!
Infinite nesting in progress.

Thats quite neat jeremy_m, you could use this to map the supposed seven circles of separation I would guess. :-)

Indeed, it's quite striking how many loops there are even a few layers in, especially around a few "hub" people who manage to know everyone in the poly or SF groups, or both. Even scanning friends in other countries just leads back here again as people cluster more by interests than location.

It's also fun to see how close your enemies are, via a very small chain of mutual friends :-)

Apart from the dynamicness, it's using very basic HTML, so the layout is an invisible table using empty cells for indentation. Putting in proper graphics like diagonal lines would be Ever So Difficult. Well, to me it feels that wya, like using a floating point number, which my generation never learned to feel happy about.
