A turnup for the books

Last night has won "The Best Night of 2005" award so far. I'm not saying this can't be beaten, but it may be hard. I think last night has to have been one of the greatest nights ever. Special thanks to Simon Erith, Felix, Tarren, Tom James and Emma Dodd for helping it along the way.
You probably know where I'm going with this. I have jumped a few stages to Stage 6 - "Ask Her Out". Now, this is complicated, and confusing. The results aren't the predicted results.

Setting The Scene
-----------------------------------------
Katie and I played badminton at 6. This was going well, and I was planning on maybe asking her out properally in the car just before she got out, after driving her home. However, the 'problem' was that Tina, her mum, also played with us. Now, this was a good laugh and I throughlly enjoyed it. Admitidely it blew all chances of me asking her at that point out the window, as Tina drove her home. So I thought I'd try Plan B.

Plan B
-----------------------------------------
The evening was set for a muck about at Calthorpe Park. We had a cricket bat, tennis ball, 3 footballs, jumpers for goal-posts and a frisby. It was twilight. The group were all in on my plan, and so kept trying to make chances where me and Katie were left on our own. I can't tell you how difficult it is to find "The Moment". I never found it on the field. We headed back to the car. The driving range was selected as the next venue. Of course, my chance to show some form. In a classic way, Felix, Tome James, Tarren and Emma all piled into Simon's car, leaving Katie and I alone in my car. Well played. While on the way there, Felix range me and said "We're going to mum's to waste time - we'll meet you two there". Genius.

Tesco's
-----------------------------------------
I needed to stop at mine and get the clubs, so I did. Then I needed to go Tesco's because I needed to withdraw money. Having got to Tesco's, I realise my wallet and cards are still at home, so it's a quick trip there and back to Tesco's. By now I'm feeling like an idiot. Katie pointed out that I shouldn't park at the fuel pumps if I have no intention of filling up, and said I should go to the car park. So I went to the furthest, darkest spot. She waited in the car, while I went to get the funds. On the way back to the car, I was rehersing in my mind what I was going to say. I was going to do it in the car park. Poor venue, but it was my final chance.

The Final Chance - and a SUMMARY of 'The Chat'
-----------------------------------------
When I got in the car, I prepared to leave, turned on the ignition, and bottled out. Then, something just spured me on. Off went the ignition. Hitting my hands gently on the steering wheel...
Me: "Katie, I've been avoiding this all night but I'm just wasting time"
Kate: "Ok?"
Me: "Now, this next phrase is most probably my least favourite saying ever, but it's the only way...*sigh* - you'd think this get's easier with time... - you know where I'm going with this don't you..?"
Katie: *Slight shy smile* "Yes"
Me: "Will you go out with me...please?"
Katie: "Haha please. The thing is, I like you yes, but I've known you effectively for a week."
Me: "Yep exactly my sentiment, which is why I was hesitating. I also thought it was somewhat quick."
Katie: "It's going really well, and I'd like to continue getting to know you more"
Me: "So that's not a no.."
Katie: "No."
Me: "And I haven't ruined anything - and if we continue how things go, it could well turn to a proper yes."
Katie: "Yes."
Me: "Excellent! - To The Driving Range!"
On the way there, we discussed things more and really cleared the air.

The Driving Range
-----------------------------------------
I was on rocket form at the driving range. A good few 150 yarders. This drew to an end very quickly. Felix and Emma had to leave to pack for uni, so Simon took these two home and Katie, Tarren and Tom stayed with me. Push came to shove, and it was decided that we'd each Katie how to drive. She's never driven a car before, but was strangely good at it. We were doing this for ages, so long in fact we forgot that Simon was waiting for us at mine.
Skipping out some irrelivant details, we come to 1AM, and Kate invites me, Tom and Simon to her's to watch Austin Powers 2. It got to around 2.15, when Simon really had to call it a night as he still had to go to Basingstoke. Seeing as his car was at mine, I was needed to take Simon back to mine. Tom also said he should be going, so I said "Yeah we're probably going to have to finish this film at another point", but she said "No you can just come back here". So it was decided.
Arriving back at hers, she was effectively asleep when I got there, so I said that maybe if she was tired we should call it a night. But she said I should stay. She was already wrapped up in a blanket saying she was freezing, which it actually was as it was "-0 Degress" according to the car, and we were in a conservatory. So I put on a heater. Sitting back next to her, she said she was still cold, and asked for this other blanket next to me. I opened it and wrapped her up and rubbed her arms in your classic "warm someone up" fashion. She leaned into me at this point though, and cuddled up to me, so she was lying in my arms. Great news. Over time, as the film went on, and we became more tired, she got closer and closer until she was completly lying on me. She put her arms round me and we cuddled for hours. Then she started to drift off to sleep. By this time, ITV Nightscreen had come on as the film had finished, and although this has to be the umtimate in boring programes, I didn't want the moment to end, so I watched that - and her sleeping. Every now and again, she'd suddnely wake up and mumble something. Then we realised the time. It was almost light and birds were up. Looking at the clock and seeing 5am, we started to say we should call it a night. Then we chatted for half an hour, with hand holding, cuddling, tickling etc etc... but she didn't want to let me go which was nice. It was the most romantic night of my life. Strange all this happened despite the conversatin at Tesco's earlier - hense unpredicted results. I got home about 5.35 and went to bed.
It turns out she hasn't seen "The Shawshank Redemption" so that's our next date I think.
------------------------------------------
I found myself thinking while she was lying there. All this has been played out by myself. I met her, liked her, continually kept going to play badminton on the days she was working only to see her, got to know her, played badminton and asked her out. Although not confirmed, we are EFFECTIVELY out, but there's still more Cotton charm to come. The work's not yet done.
What's more, when I first mentioned to someone else at the Leisure Centre I liked her, I was told I had huge competition from a number of people. How I seem to be winning is anyone's guess. Also, she's currently under the illusion that I am very intelligent.
I completly believe she likes me.
------------------------------------------
On that happy note,
Until Next Time
