Broomball Kicks Ass....... and it sure did Kick Mine LOL

So, last night was my first shot at Broomball. Let me tell you, if you've never played, you are missing out on one of the best times of your life. To explain it briefly, it's basically hockey on the ice without skates. You also use these funky sticks with a small paddle-like end and a big blue ball. Well, we played for an our (we being my Pre-Vet Club and our friends) and here are the best parts that transpired from it.

In the beginning, I wiped out while getting used to the ice. I was just running around and sliding before the game began, and I went to run and fell and nearly took out my friend Caitlin in the process.

I fell several other times that night, all in good fun. I was right back up and running again. Most of the falls were due to me trying to change directions too fast and not getting any grip, or it was me just finding an extra smooth spot on the ice.

I nearly body-checked Caitlin into the wall at one point. We were on opposite teams and she was at the ball with the ball coming towards her. I yelled "Oh no you don't!" As I ran full force at her to stop her from sending the ball down the ice. She screamed in horror as I hit the wall around her and prevented her shot. I then had to run like hell as she came tearing after me screaming "I'm gonna breath fire down your throat!" (Or something like that, I'll probably edit it when Caitlin tells me what she said, I was too busy running away).

I got hit in the chest with the ball. Not surprised that it happened, but it kinda hurt. But being the man that I am I kept playing (thank you adrenaline) and besides, the pain subsided after about a minute. Thankfully, no soreness today.

Later, our team was down about 3-0, and I had enough of it. For the first part of the game I was my team's goalie, and I wasn't doing too well. Though I have to admit I had no defense as it appeared my team preferred offense. So I told one of the drunk club members to take over the goal for a couple minutes and I raced to the other side with the ball. We mananged to keep the ball down at the other team's end for the majority of the game from that point on, but Caitlin's boyfriend, Josh, was the goalie and he was pretty good at it (not to mention he had like 5 girls that just stood in front of him blocking the goal cuz they didn't want to run around). Well, at one point we were attempting to get the ball in when Josh managed to get it in his hands to save it. I had had enough and I yelled "JOSH!!!" and dove at him. My plan was to tackle him (since he was already on his knees) into the goal to score our team a point. Well, first of all, my shout sounded more like a "OMG WATCH OUT I'M GONNA CRASH!" tone than it did false-anger like I intended it to. Part of it was because as I dove for him my foot slipped and I started to fall sideways. So I missed Josh and I just fell into the goal. I think it was the most hilarious part of the night. Everyone just looked at me when I got up and laughed hysterically; I couldn't stop laughing for like 10 minutes.

In the end, I think I came out with one lump just below my left knee and utter exhaustion. Running around on the ice really takes it out of you.

In the end, my team lost, but it was fun nonetheless. I hope to do it again sometime soon, so if any of you are involved in a club that is going to play and can invite friends, let me know!
