I'm an idiot
So I'm trying to log into Yahoo but Trillian keeps telling me wrong password. It DOES log me in for a second, long enough to see who's online, then immediately logs me out telling me "invalid login username or passwor.d."
After changing my password a couple times last night, I figured out what it is. Trillian is also running on my laptop, and since the reinstall, I forgot to reset it not to autostart when you turn on the computer. My daughter uses the lappy to play her "squaregames" (www.newpets.com and notice how the games are in "squares") and her "pbskids" or (pbskids.org) two of her favorite activity websites. Yahoo doesn't like to be logged in at more than one location. It will keep the newest connection, and cut the others, but Trillian is by default, set to auto-reconnect. So basically, my two Trillian copies would sit here and log in, logging the other off, to make the other reconnect automatically, logging the first one off, which would then reconnect... yeah.
So, yeah, fixed my IM problems by simply going in there and turning off Trillian on my laptop.
