Enjoy.
Piano Keys
A thundering dance
wakens the sleeping earth,
which slowly rises to salute
the trumpeting ivory.
Gray pillars march,
maintaining rhythm as if
an ancient African ark sails through the
sea of grass,
trampling currents in waves of dust.
Ears spread out like wings
from silver helmets
perched high above the wrinkled trunks
that flow to the ground.
Humble tails steer this massive fleet.
An oasis,
sheltered from the glaring
overhead heat, harbors the
bathing herd
sinking and surfacing in the mist.
The setting sun
paints the glowing savannah over
watchful eyes,
as pearls of the land
dangle like Kibuka’s spears-
an ivory defense, protecting from
tooth and claw,
but tempting the puncturing hot lead.
From the darkness,
mankind’s presence shakes the earth,
leaving the elephant cold.
Bleeding generations for Mozart.
