jet lag

another trip to the uk. it seems i catch something -- a bug -- on the plane when going from india to the uk -- but not the other way round. i wonder if the wet damp and cold of england has anything to do with it or that random indians and travelers are carrying a myriad of flu viruses.
i woke up at 4 am after falling asleep yesterday afternoon around 5 pm. im staying in a guesthouse in hampstead this time round and its a lovely old mansion -- the rooms are very traditional old london. ive a view over the back garden and the window is big which lets in the light and cool breeze. it's a bit too cold for july however. i did not pack prepared for the cold.
i went to my storage unit early sunday morning seeking warm clothes and was too tired to think about it really. as i had no coat or shawl with me -- i had to find the warmest clothes i could find in my suitcase which was a bright floral silk sari in burnt orange and forest green complete with matching pink petticoat. i treaded across london -- slightly freezing my ass off and quite non-surprisingly - i caught a lot of attention. when i reached the big yellow storage -- i realized i left the keys in india. i had to get the girl to break the lock off. i couldn't find my old dowdy clogs which are most comfortable for walking -- so ended up instead with the black leather knee-high lace-up boots. i found some old cotton socks and this combination was switched over from a pair of broken down flip- flops. my feet were warm -- but what was with this outfit? well -- i thought -- im only going to be here for a week -- so im not lugging a load of clothes around and im just too tired to think about it. further more -- i was at the big yellow -- on ctv camera for all to view from anywhere in the building. i found my black burberry's trench coat and threw it over my sari and that was me! i found an umbrella, a random bottle of iris parfum lodged in one of my handbags and that lot would go with me as well -- i might need them. when i arrived back at the hotel -- i was wet through and the lady here at the hotel asked me if the sari was very practical for the weather. i was too tired to give a practical answer and thought to myself -- does it really matter? yes it's practical because my sari will dry very quickly -- something she would not know. she asked me if i didn't have anything that wasn't indian. i couldn't bother answering -- i was left slightly confused. as far as I was concerned -- i was warm and actually able to dry quickly.
i'm not sure why it mattered to me to write about this today -- i suppose because i wonder sometimes if i really look all that strange -- after all, the colors are lovely against the black boots and trench coat. so f-em!
and to think i spent maybe a total of 25 quid on 9 yards of silk. the vinyl stretch pants at the shop around the corner are 640 pounds. un- fucking - believable.
