Memphis, TN

So, I had a blast in Memphis. We left Charleston around 4 on friday, and got to our hotel, which was the Hilton might I add, around midnight. We woke up early Satruday morning and headed over to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital for our tour. It was an awesome experience. You don't realize how much St. Jude's does and how global they are. All the walls are colorful, no white walls whatsoever. I liked that alot, so the children don't feel like they're in a hospital. The registration desks are at kid level also, so the kids can feel as if they're apart of the whole process. All the children know exactly what they have. They make sure the kids know what's going on, but yet makes sure they have a childhood and aren't just thrown into this adult world of medicine. I think that was the most awesome thing. We saw a couple of children, and that was just heartbreaking in itself. Seeing children so sick just doesn't seem right. They sure don't deserve to be sick, no one does. It's pretty neat about what St. Jude's has done. Not only do they do research on cancer, but they also research the different infectious diseases like Pneumonia, bird flu (all the flu vaccinations that are available are from St. Jude's), and osteogenesis. It's really a cool thing.

After we toured the hospital we went to the Target House. That was really neat to see. I really enjoyed that. I liked how there was a place for the families of the sick children to live. The people of St. Jude's want to make sure they take care of their patients and their families. They try to have the children come in for the treatments and be able to go back to their apartment in any of the houses they have set up. I think it's pretty awesome that the hospital not only takes care of the sick children, but they take care of the families. I think that's very important in the healing process, so there's not more stress on the children with worrying about living space.

After the tours we hung out. We went into the hot tub outside (yea people it was 80 degrees down there. How nice that was. We talked to a guy who knew Elvis when he was a kid. His grandma lived behind Graceland, and Elvis often went over to get away from everything. He said his grandma had made him food often, and he even went over for Christmas. The guy said he has pictures of him sitting on Elvis's lap with Elvis wearing a santa hat. He also said Elvis got him a firetruck that he could ride in, for Christmas one year. It was really neat to talk to him. Then after the hot tub we went to Beale Street and just walked up and down it enjoying the interesting people. There are some interesting people in Memphis. We went to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner, that was fun and good food.

So, without all the drama that is obviously going to occur with a bunch of girls, the weekend was a blast and just so much fun.

Peace Out,
Jenna
