Roxi likes to swim!

Duane and I went to his parent's farm for father's day, to help him with building a garage. I don't know why we call it the farm. It's just a ton of land with strip pits for fishing. They hunt and fish out there, mostly, but there are berry trees and things like that that his mom likes to pick and can. Anyway, I'm not much help when it comes to building things, as I have absolutely no experience, but I tried. I was more looking forward to seeing if Roxi would enjoy the water, which she did.

At some of the frisbee golf courses, there are creeks or ponds that she likes to splash in, but she's never fully submerged herself. When we took her to the farm, it was flooded because it's been raining like CRAZY here. There were big puddles around the whole strip pit. I threw a stick into one of the big puddles and she hit the water and got incredibly excited. She started high-jumping like a deer, through the water. Duane and I were cracking up. She looked so funny.

Then I took her about half a mile down the strip pit, to a place where it's deep enough that she'd have to swim, but shallow enough that if she couldn't swim, I could easily grab her. I dropped her in and her head didn't even go under water. She started paddling immediately, and came back to the shore and jumped up to me, waiting for me to put her in again. I kept dropping her a little further out each time, and she loved it. She kept coming back for more. I finally picked her up and threw her about five feet out and she swam around a bit and finally came to the shore. She really seemed to enjoy the water, and I'm glad, because Duane and I have talked about camping at a lake with her and I think she'd really enjoy it.

Roxi fetches sticks like she's going to run out of them. I would throw them into the water, and she'd go get them, happy as a clam. She came back looking more proud each time. I wish that I had pictures of this, but I didn't have my camera with me. Next time I take her to the water, I'll remember. I looked up some local dog parks and a couple have ponds, so I think I'll try there next. I'm sure I need to get her licensed before I can do that. She's had her rabies vaccine and everything else, and she's spayed, so I just need to pay the thirty dollars and get the license. I'll check more into it. I honestly don't know the benefit of licensing a pet, aside from avoiding fines. I know that if she's lost, they can locate me with her license number, but I've got a tag on her with both of our phone numbers, our city and her name, anyway. I'll just have to figure it out, I suppose.

I miss when she was this tiny. She's about six weeks in this picture.

roxi, roxi swims!
