Myshuno Prompt: Being in the News
Characters: Kaede Daniels, River Daniels, mentions of other family members
Rating: PG for some light swearing
Summary: Kaede always wanted to make news but not like this.

One would think that since she had given birth to one kid before, Kaede wouldn’t still feel tired almost a whole day after the birth of her second child. But here she was resting at the hospital, impatiently waiting for the doctor to come in and say “Okay Kaede you and the baby can go home now!”
She thought that moment finally came when she heard a knock on the door.
“Come in.”
It wasn’t the doctor or a nurse but her husband River holding onto a bag that looked a little heavy. A little disappointing she had to admit but she was happy to see someone she knew. River walked up to his wife and gave her a peck on her cheek.
“Hey Kaede, how are ya feeling?”
“Still a little tired, baby Jamie really wiped me out.”
“Jamie?”
“Isn’t that the name we agreed on?”
A look of recognition flashed on River’s face.
“Oh right, right. In all the craziness, I kinda forgot.”
“Just don’t forget when Jamie and I have to go home. Speaking of home how’s everyone doing?”
“Everyone’s excited to meet Jamie, though York’s a little worried since you didn’t come home yesterday but we’re all keeping him company. By the way, brought your books in case you wanted something to read… I also brought the paper but I don’t think you’re going to like one of the headlines.”
“What do you mean?”
River pulled out a rolled up newspaper out of his pocket. He opened up the paper to the culture section and right there on the page was a photo of Kaede screaming her lungs out at the bookstore under the headline: LOCAL AUTHOR GOES INTO LABOR DURING BOOK SIGNING
“Oh no… “Kaede Daniels, author of the Ruby Hunter novels, hosted a book signing at Bookworms yesterday to celebrate the release of the newest addition to her fictional adventure series. However during the event, Mrs. Daniels went into labor…””
As Kaede read through the article she wanted nothing more than a damn rock to crawl under.
“I shouldn’t have listened to Daryl, I should’ve explained that I was close to my damn due date and I should’ve stayed at home instead of running around doing events and…”
“Kaede it’s okay.”
“It’s not okay, it’s embarrassing! I always hoped that the first big news story about me would be something like “local author wins literary reward” or something like that.”
“Come on Kaede it’s not that bad. Just watch, a few years from now this will be a funny story you tell at parties.”
Kaede sighed and looked at the photo in the paper, “I suppose you’re right… still… I wish they used a picture from the actual event before I had to go to the hospital.”
River chuckled and responded: “Yeah but just a picture of the event wouldn’t get people’s attention on the website. Like I said, it’s not a big deal, some people will joke about it but after a while they’ll move on…”
The conversation stopped when a doctor stepped into the room.
“Good morning Mrs. Daniels, Mr. Daniels, how are you two doing?”
“We’re fine, I’m still a little tired but other than that.” Said Kaede
The doctor nodded and looked at River.
“Mr. Daniels, I just need to check on your wife. Could you please step outside? I’ll meet with you at the waiting room.”
“Alright Doc.”
River gave one more kiss to Kaede and hugged her as he said good-bye.
“Love you, have fun with Doc.”
“Heh love you too.”
