The Neilas Chapter 4
After procrastinating like crazy, the Neilas are back!
"Come on Kaidan, tell me! What's her name?! What's her name!?"
"What's whose name!?"
"You know who I'm talking about! Now tell me or I'll shoot you with my invisible ray gun."
Another day another attempt from Samara to find out why her older brother had been acting so weird recently.
The truth was Arthur could tell that his oldest son was developing a crush on Ashley's best friend, June Woleb.
It was rather endearing seeing the boy's version of "courtship" (copied from movies and books.)
Ashley on the other hand wasn't all that thrilled with her twin hogging all of June's attention.
Kaidan's sister's annoyance didn't bother him though. He continued bringing June home with him or going to her house after school.
The two even at some point shared a kiss. After hearing about this Ashley delighted in tormenting her twin about cooties throughout the whole day until Arthur stepped in and gave Kaidan a "cootie shot."
While this was going on, Tali had decided to do her duty as a member of the family and provide. Trying to get a job however turned out harder than it expected. Whether she applied online or in person, the minute any employer saw or heard about her purple skin and eyes, they closed the door on her.
However luck was on Tali's side. One day, she got a chance to meet with June's father, Gary Woleb, an aspiring politician. When she mentioned to him the troubles she had trying to find a job, he offered her a position in his election team as a door-to-door poller.
Even though she didn't have much interest in politics, Tali gladly accepted.
After all daddy was going to have his sixth child any day now.
Arthur managed to scrape together enough money to get Tali her own bed. Sure she had to share the room with Garrus and would soon share with her new baby brother or sister but it was better than having her sleeping on the couch.
The first few nights were bit of a hassle especially when Garrus managed to unlock his crib and walk out.
But Tali kept reminding herself that she was helping her daddy. It didn't make midnight potty training on the night before a big test any better but it did keep her from throwing her hands up in defeat and letting her baby brother cry all night.
It was a week later when Tali woke up not to Garrus' crying but to her father screaming.
She ran up the stairs to find Arthur in labor while Mara stood there confused.
"Tali! Daddy just got up and started screaming! What do we do!? What do we do!?"
The older sister took a breath and tried to think back to when she was present for Samara's birth.
"Mara! I need you to go to the bathroom and get lots of towels and a bucket of water, okay? I'll take care of daddy."
It took a couple hours and Tali had to shoo her little sister out of the room but Arthur managed to give birth to another baby girl.
Witnessing the process left Tali a bit shocked, she had almost forgotten to help clean off the family's latest addition.
The following morning, Arthur announced that the baby would be named Jacqueline. However after a few days of the younger children mispronouncing the name, the nickname Jack was adopted.
Nearly a year had passed before Arthur got another message from "Dr. Sarimpa." Although the email had the usual "Hope you and the children are well" there was also a quick message that said: "My associates and I apologize for any and all troubles you had to deal with. After this night, you will never see us again."
Arthur was not sure what to think of this. A part of him was relieved, the house was starting to get crowded, although Tali's job with Mr. Woleb paid, it still wasn't quite enough, and as much as he didn't want to admit it, Arthur was getting on in years he couldn't do this forever.
Yet he had done this whole thing for so long and have gotten six wonderful children out of it...
This time Arthur did not wait, he called the nanny on his own free will.
She was quite surprised when the call came. His eldest was a teenager now, she could stay at home and watch the young ones. The nanny came anyway, after all it wouldn't have been fair to let Ms. Tali do all the work while her father was gone.
She found Arthur sitting in the kitchen.
"Oh good, you've arrived. Solvieg wasn't it?"
"Yes?"
"Just tell me something. Who are you? Did Dr. Sarimpa send you?"
Solvieg smiled, "I was born on this planet, as were your children. Dr. Sarimpa's... or rather I should say Pollination Technician Marpesia's people attempted an experiment many decades ago, I was one of the results."
But before Arthur could ask anything more, he felt the all-too familiar sensation of his body moving on its own.
For the last time, Arthur was pulled up to the mothership. He remained unconscious the entire time. He woke up outside his home just as before.
He found Solvieg cleaning up the living room and cleared his throat.
"Ah you've returned."
Arthur said nothing as he reached into his pocket and found some spare money.
"I know it's not much."
"But I figured that since you've taken care of my children all these years, you deserved a little something."
"I... thank you Mr. Neila."
With that Solvieg left the house but this would not the last time she stepped foot into the Neila household.
*ONE MONTH LATER*
"18 Cherry Lane, this is the place."
The woman took a deep breath and walked the steps.
"Hopefully he'll be cooperative."
With that she rang the doorbell.
"Alright Garrus that's good now can you sa..."
The sound of the doorbell interrupted Arthur's playtime with his youngest son.
"Now who could that be?"
Sure that Garrus was currently busy with his rabbit head, Arthur walked off to greet his visitor.
He practically froze in place when he saw a woman in sunglass wearing a very official looking unifrom. She noticed him and nodded.
"Mr. Arthur Neila I presume...?"
"My name is Halla Astrid, I'm with the SCIA. May we talk for a bit?"

Sorry it took so long to come up with this update but hopefully it was worth the wait. A couple notes:
*I couldn't resist going with the puppy love sidestory with Kaidan and June. They just seemed cute together, especially since I have the actual Puppy Love mod, hopefully things will work out when they're teens. ;)
*One of the rules of the challenge is that you have to roll on whether or not the kids get jobs or not due to employer discrimination against aliens. Tali's LTW is to become a city planner (although for the sake of the story she hasn't quite figured that out yet) but I figured it would be better for the story if she didn't get a job in architecture.
*Originally Solvieg the nanny was not going to appear again. But when I thought about it, I realized, "no I think Arthur would want to know about this experiment she mentioned and Pollination Technician Marpesia." So she's not gone yet folks.
*Yes this is the same Halla Astrid from my VDSL family. Originally she was not supposed to be in the story but I had planned that after I finished the Astrids that I would plop down clones of her and katu's Issac in Stonewell so they could have a family live full lives together. At some point I came up with the idea of her appearing as a government agent approaching Arthur about the kids. You'll see what she wants next chapter.
*Not really a note but just a picture that I thought was funny but couldn't fit into the update.
Anyway hopefully the next update will take less than a few months, ha, ha. ^^;
