Dear Family and Friends,
We were thinking that it might be about time to check-in with you. On our wedding day there was a lot of talking about keeping in touch...so here it is :) Maybe you’ll be able to take a few minutes to let us know how you’re doing too?
A lot has happened in the past year, but Q feels very different to J, probably because she’s so used to Vancouver and won’t stop talking about it. J seems like he is used to Q’s ways so far. J thinks knowing French will help even more with the process. That and she’s started finding more Chinese food, which makes her happier.
The first few months were an attempt at getting J settled, like getting her Care Card, driver’s license, teacher’s license, and finding a French class. Arriving in August proved to be difficult as it felt like it took forever to find someone to talk to, as French classes were shut down until September. J started learning how Q does its paper work. She got frustrated when she had to tell someone her information instead of filling it out herself. We were able to find ways of using the iPad to learn French. If you want to learn a second language for free, join her on
www.duolingo.com. It’s a lot of fun!
In order to teach, she only had to pass an English grammar test. Now J is teaching part-time at a local English Christian School that she volunteered at during the last school year.
We went to see J’s family for birthdays and other special events. We also met up with them at the W’s Fair, Gatineau Park, Cornwall and the surrounding areas. For special events, we also went to QC and stayed at a Pirate’s Bed and Breakfast. At the W’s Fair is Canada’s oldest agriculture fair, J entered the photo contest and won first place overall! We also had the opportunity to welcome visitors to our home and went to see some of J’s friend and family in O.
In our hometown of VD, we have explored different parks, Mount Rigaud, strawberry patches, attended friend’s weddings and visited all the historical places we learned about in history class. In church, we’ve become more involved as J is becoming known as the go-to guy for making videos. It all started with filming one of the church’s concert, and now it has grown to filming church events, weddings, and music videos of different places or activities that we have been to. You can view the videos at

Let’s be honest here. We were planning on sending out this letter around our first year anniversary. Things got a bit busy, as we had to learn more about the Q and O medical system. Why do you ask? It’s because we are expecting to have our first baby March 1, 2015. We have much to learn and are very excited about the newest addition to our life adventure.
Until next time,
J&J
