It may seem to some that I only update my journal on days when the third floor women's restroom smells like broccoli. It seems that way to me sometimes. I'll have you know that's not true. The women's restroom smells like broccoli several times a week. And I have gotten lazy with my writing, or even checking what others have written.

I wanted to jot something down today - mostly because over the past few days I've caught myself saying several times "I should journal that". Of course, now that I'm actually typing I can't remember what most of those things were.

I received a reply e-mail from our realtor today. I had written to him to ask if he was available this coming weekend to show Phillip and me "our" house again. We fell in love with almost as soon as we saw it and want to put in an offer, assuming nothing's happened to it since the last time we saw it.

So his reply e-mail... It stated that one of the houses on Clay St. had a contract on it, he wasn't sure which one, and that he would let me know. I'm bummed. There's two houses for sale on Clay St. listed with the agency and I can't help but hope that it's the other one.

An interesting note, for those familiar with the Roanoke College campus, Clay St intersects with Market St. I don't really believe in "signs", but it can't be a bad coincidence, right?

I bought a wallet Tuesday. I was out shopping with my mom and found a really basic black purse, the kind I can take to work - also the kind I didn't own. So, I picked it up and while I was in the purse section my mom told me she really liked the wallet I'd found for her at Wilson's. Then it struck me. I needed a wallet.

For the last two years I had been using the ID holder that at one time carried my RC ID and had been stuffing the extra pocket with everything one might normally put in a wallet. It worked well enough to serve my purposes, too. But then, while Victoria, Laura, Caroline, and I were out shopping for bridesmaids dresses, I handed it to Victoria to give to Carrie to chew on. (She's 9 months old, teething, and likes to chew on old, soft leather apparently. I took everything out of it first, of course.)

Well, Victoria left it at the restaurant and so I was sans even an ID holder for my cards, receipts, IDs, and various whatnot.

So, I purchased the first wallet I've owned in quite a while. It took about half an hour to get it arranged the way I like and to clean out my purse - which now weighs about five pounds less, considering all of the useless crap that I've since thrown away that used to inhabit it.

It's funny how something as small as buying a wallet or as big as buying a home can make you feel like an adult.

On a similar note, I have lost my watch - the true tell-all of whether one is an adult or not. (I think I went on in length about this concept last (2006) April or May after Phillip and I noticed that we were the only ones at the Zeta lock-in wearing them and also the only ones out of college.)

I can't remember if I wrote about it before or not, but I started a new workout regimen a couple of months ago. Chavis and I (and Ken when he's not wimping out on us) meet at the gym a few nights a week and work on various muscle groups with the weights. Also, we've been running this course at the Manassas battlefield - about 4.2 miles - three or four times a week.

My mother, in her infinite wisdom and with the tact that only she can bring forth, told me that I needed to lose about twenty pounds before the wedding. Apparently, she told my sister that she was worried that I wouldn't be able to fit into my wedding dress. At first, I found this offensive, but then took it to be her way of saying that she wanted to look better for my wedding and wanted someone to go through the diet and weightloss with her, without having to ask. I've already volunteered to go walking with her on Tuesday mornings and we went about two miles this past Tuesday.

Funny enough, with all of the exercise and by eating healthier, I've already lost weight, without a specific diet. In fact, I've lost enough that my engagement ring no longer fits and has slipped off my finger three times while I was in the midst of talking to people. (I have been known to gesticulate wildly at times.) I bought a pack of ring guards and it seems to be doing better now.

My dad, man who speaks many truths, told me that I should be careful, I wouldn't want the ring to fall off in the 'wrong place'. Of course, this led my mother and I to come up with the worst situation for this - perhaps during an eclipse, in a prison yard, or the best (I think), in a room filled with fake diamond engagement rings. My dad didn't find this nearly as funny as we did. He rolled his eyes and told us that he meant something like standing on a train platform. This situation has nearly the same likelihood of occurrence as any of the ones we named, though.

As mentioned earlier, Laura, Victoria, Carrie, and I went off in search of bridesmaid dresses. Victoria's my maid of honor, Laura's my matron of honor, and Catherine's my third bridesmaid. I have yet to invite Cat to come shopping for several reasons: she's busy with school, she lives further away than the rest of us, I'm sure she won't have a problem with whatever dress is chosen, and amazingly enough, she's going to be the easiest to fit. Thank God for Cat - I think almost anything will look good on her. Laura and Victoria, on the other hand, really need special consideration. due to their... endowments.

When we started this whole "searching for a dress" fiasco, I had several rules in mind:

1. It had to affordable. I can't ask someone who is doing me a favor by participating to spend an arm and a leg.
2. It had to be reusable. Too many bridesmaid dresses take the shape of an eighties prom dress and are relinquished to the back of the closet, never to be seen again.
3. It needs to be something that everyone can agree on and feel comfortable wearing.
4. It had to be brown, or some shade of brown/cream. These are the wedding colors.
5. It had to match the formality of my dress. It is very formal.

So far, this has been the most stressful part of wedding planning. Our search at Potomac Mills - the largest mall on the east coast - turned up nothing, except a dress that Victoria loved that I would need to change my dress for, and a few more casual dresses that Laura really liked. To be fair, though, neither of them had really gotten a good look at my wedding dress, so they couldn't really picture what I was picturing when I said formal.

Well, yesterday I found some dresses at a store online that look really promising. They have just about every size and even have some dresses in brown, which is just about the hardest color to find.

Here they are:

Dress 1 in truffle, the color it's pictured in.

Dress 2 in truffle or champagne.

Dress 3 in champagne.

Dress 4 in truffle.

Dress 5 in champagne, the color it's pictured in.

They're all pretty affordable, and none of them is horrid - unlike many of the ones that were tried on during the now-infamous (in my mind, anyway) shopping trip.

If you have any input, please leave a comment. I've already sent an e-mail to Laura, Victoria, and Phillip, but I need all of the help I can get.
