today i used the composting toilet in the dana building. i had tried my luck once before, but this time it was unoccupied.

i lifted the lid and stared into darkness. it was a regularly shaped toilet, but under the lid the path to liquifaction and compostication lay down a tube of what appeared to be green plastic buckets.

it was a bit drafty, and by that i mean that a steady wind blew up my bum the entire time. it felt unsanitary--a deadly wind all over my stuff. my leavings made a distant plop in the darkness. i stood up and tried to flush, but there was just green plastic and a windy hole. it was just like a camp latrine. as i was washing my hands, i realized that the restroom was truly energy efficient because you could use the toilet as a hand dryer.

all in all it was an ok experience. i feel as though i did my part by recycling my poo. because of the draft i'd have to give it 3 out of 5 stars.

then i read a great and simple thing in my environment power point and it went something like this and you wouldn't expect to need reminding about this but sometimes you forget and it is this:

'satisfy nonmaterial needs nonmaterially.'
