We're back from Tofino and it was great! If you want to see photos from our trip, check out the photo album on my Facebook profile. I didn't bother taking many photos of the surrounding landscape because there are already so many of them online that I can just look at those whenever I want to. Most of my photos are of objects on the beaches, ocean life in tidal pools, details of rocks, and rainforest scenery.
The air was damp and cool, and my dry eyes and chapped lips finally found relief. Seriously! For weeks now I had been waking up with crusty eyes from the poor air quality. My lips had become so chapped from the dryness and all the fans going full force 24/7 that they had cracked and started bleeding -- all this in spite of guzzling 2-3 large refillable bottles of tap water every day for at least a month. Mon Dieu!
Last week was a bust in terms of painting. Two fridays ago was the last time I made any substantial progress on my large cat painting (see photo in a previous entry). I felt bad about stepping away from it for the last week, but that feeling was short lived. I was taking 2-3 cold showers every day just to cool myself down, and I had been bathing the cat every second day. By mid week, I became concerned about overusing water. I couldn't be the only person cooling down this way, could I? So I filled the bath with cold water every morning and let it sit there all day so I could wander in and sit in it whenever I started feeling weak in the knees again. I did venture out to pick up a couple of canvases from an art supply store two blocks away, thinking that I could get a breeze that way, but by the time I had the canvases in hand and started my short trek home, I was feeling faint. When I got back to the loft, I headed straight for the tub and lay in cold water for an hour.
Okay, enough about the heatwave.
It's nice and cool in here today so I'm making up for lost time by cleaning our place from top to bottom. I had no energy to clean for weeks, so I'm finally getting around to putting stuff away properly and cleaning every surface I can get my hands on.
My friend Ken is back in the city after spending a few months in Portland at his studio. I haven't seen him in ages now - which is the norm - so I'm looking forward to showing him what I've been working on and hearing about his latest projects. Hopefully we'll both have time to get together for a chat before he disappears to his studio again.
An old friend from my Ottawa U days is going to be in Vancouver next week for a wedding. I haven't seen Patrick in over 10 years now. I sorta met him through my cousin Staci. At some point during my first two weeks at Thompson Residence, he popped by out of nowhere, introduced himself as a friend of my cousin and that he was here to show me the city. Cool! We became good friends and spent a lot of time together in the two years I was in Ottawa, but like many people I knew at that time, we lost touch when I moved on to Montreal and then Halifax. I can't wait to see him! -- And I can't wait to start in on this painting again, so I should get back to cleaning for now.
