Name: Kadaj
Name of Canon: Final Fantasy VII Compilation
Canon/AU/Other Game CR: Canon
Reference: Kadaj, WTF is a Remnant?, Who was Sephiroth, and WTF is Mother

Canon Point: Just before merging with the remains of Jenova

Setting: Gaia is a Planet encircled by a stream of vibrant energy called the Lifestream. All life on the Planet comes from the Lifestream and returns to it when it dies. Two thousand years before the start of Final Fantasy VII, a Calamity called Jenova crashed into the Planet, and quickly began to destroy all life found there. The Cetra, a race capable of communing with the Planet and the Lifestream, was nearly wiped out, but was able to lock Jenova away in a strata.

Two thousand years later, a company called ShinRa developed a means to harness the Lifestream into usable energy. They'd successfully created a monopoly on the world's energy by providing one that didn't cause any pollution and was easy to obtain. The world at large isn't divided into countries so much as it is independent city-states that do operate under their own government, but most of them defaulted to the rule of ShinRa, as all their technology and success are because of the company.

Now, after ShinRa has fallen from grace, being blamed for Meteorfall and the near destruction of the world, people are starting to stand back on their feet again, seeking alternative forms of fuel such as oil, and attempting to rebuild the world.

There is plenty of modern technology: motor vehicles, cell phones, TVs, radios, etc.

Personality: Kadaj, as the first Remnant created by Sephiroth, is the embodiment of his hatred, rage, and madness. In interaction, Kadaj is the most changing of all his brothers. At times, he can be very lucid, driven, and organized, but this disposition can change in an instant to one of anguish and almost melancholy. Being the first, he is closest to Sephiroth, and expresses on more than one occasion a deep-seated anguish at the knowledge they are merely tools to bring about Sephiroth's return. He states himself, however, he does not know Sephiroth, but only knows that he is Mother's favorite, not Kadaj or his brothers, and this frustrates him.

Driven by Sephiroth's will, however, Kadaj is helpless to stop the biting need to find Mother to facilitate his "Reunion". His temperament is decidedly separate from Sephiroth's, though. He can be rash, almost flighty at times, and very childish. Once his mind is set on a goal, however, his will to see that goal carried out gives him an unswerving direction, an outlet for his unstable personality, and a purpose to fill his day.

Kadaj was constructed using the memories of the form and face of a boy, presumably that of a teenager based on his appearance, and his personality reflects that adolescence. He can be impatient and demanding, sure of himself to a fault, and unwilling to accept that others, Rufus and Cloud specifically, might know more than he does, much like a teenager shrugs off the warnings and advice of those older simply because they believe they know better.

Directed, he's capable of mob-mongering speeches bordering on zealotry, such as the speech he gives to the children taken from Midgar infected with Geostigma. He promises them freedom from pain, convincing them the Planet was attacking them, punishing them for being Mother's Chosen, and he would make them whole. All they needed to do was watch him, and do as he did. When left to his own devices, though, Kadaj's madness can be chaotic. He enjoys displays of power, and watching the chaos he reaps, but it isn't a malicious joy, but rather the innocent pleasure one would observe in a child who'd contructed something, only to tear it down.

His speech is just as chaotic as his nature, ranging from making business calls to playfully teasing others in conversation. His wording and mannerisms are very child-like in nature, though their content and objectives reflect the intentions of one much older.

The Remnants aren't so much evil as they are completely unaware their actions have any such connotations, good or bad. They were created for a purpose, and while they all have their own personas, they have no real-world experience. It isn't that they are immoral so much as amoral. They have never experienced society, and thus have no sense of right or wrong.

Abilities and Weaknesses: Being a construct of memories from the Lifestream held together by corrupted life-force, Kadaj has three major supernatural abilities, two of which are exclusive to him.

Mist-Walking: Kadaj is able to turn himself into a cloud of black mist. He uses this only once in canon to infiltrate Healen Lodge by going through the cracks around the front door.

Black Water: Kadaj is also able to seap Mother's will into liquid substances, turning it into an embodiment of Jenova's will. It has the ability to activate the latent Jenova cells contained within a person and make them seek Reunion.

Summon Shadow Creepers: All the Remnants possess the ability to summon creatures, demonic, vaguely canine beasts with overly-large claws and vicious tendencies. In canon, Kadaj has summoned up to ten of these monsters at once, without effort, and dismissed them with a wave of his hand.

Aside from the three major points above, he is also resilient in battle, but not undefeatable, possessing if superhuman but not incredible speed and only slightly higher than average strength. As a denizen of the Lifestream, he's able to use Materia, which are solidified memories of the Lifestream that allow their user to cast the spells contained within.

Kadaj fights with a double-bladed sword called the Souba, and his skilled enough to defeat at least two trained fighters at once. Also, despite his mania and childish demeanor, he's a capable leader and competent strategist. He has a high degree of skill riding a motorcycle, and knows how to use modern technology.

Kadaj greatest weakness his is own inexperience and impatience. Without Yazoo to give him pause, he can be very rash, and act before thinking things through. Also, his lack of understanding, both of humanity and of the intricacies of how people work put him at a disadvantage. He also doesn't possess an understanding of kindness, as he's never been shown any, and wouldn't know how to react to it, should it be shown to him.

He does, however, possess the ability to learn.

Inventory: Coming with Kadaj will be the Souba, his double-bladed Katana, two Matera: Enemy Skill (Capable of casting Matra Magic, which is a non-elemental attack that can be likened to a burst of light and energy that can explode. Due to the transfer, instead of having the explosive capability of a pipe bomb, it will only be able to knock people back and possibly press them to the ground in its shock wave) and the summon Bahamut SIN (Which summons Bahamut SIN from the Lifestream on Gaia, and thus will do absolutely nothing in Chicago), and a box, much like a shoe box but designed to contain and maintain genetic material in which Mother was held. The transfer hasn't been good to Mother either, as instead of being the last remaining Jenova cells containing her will and intent (since that's also back on Gaia), it is nothing but dead material.

Appearance: Kadaj is the smallest of his brothers, lithe, boyish, and almost cherubic of feature. He has chin-length silver hair that falls in unchecked curtains in his face and emerald green eyes with slits much like a cat's that seem to shine with their own light. His clothes consist of nothing but black leather, a short coat that's zippered in front, embroidered in a Spartan fashion with shoulder pads atop held in place with various belts and buckles. His pants are in two layers, the under being tight leather, with leather pleats over, buckled at the knees and flaring open around his calves. His boots are knee high beneath the flaps of leather as well, and thickly soled.

Age: Roughly two (Appears roughly 16)

The falling, being so close to Mother he could feel her there, so close to being complete, so close to being finished, then the air filled in, too close, to much of it, or too little of it, and he landed, skidding along the rough pavement to a halt, the metal box skidding from his fingers to come to a clattering halt somewhere to his right. Then it was quiet. All
around, it was quiet.

Quiet and wrong. The tingling closeness of his brothers, of Big Brother, and of him, of Sephiroth were gone, and he was...was what? Alone? He knew the meaning of the word, but had never felt its quaking, earth-shattering presence. They had never been alone, and if they were to go, they were to go together. The shock of this sudden, inescapable, truth, threatened to choke him, to drain the last of his waning will from his constructed body.

Until he remembered. Mother! He frantically ran back over his less than graceful decent, retracing the grating sound of metal on pavement, and turned, the shining surface of the container the President had so shamefully stored Mother in shining in the cold light cast by a street light. He scrambled to be at her side, mindless of the truth, at least at first.

He took hold of the frigid metallic container, pressing it to his chest as a lost child clutching a found stuffed animal, not noticing his own gentle rocking, or the sobs that accompanied his motion. "Mother," He muttered, repeating the title like a mantra. They'd done so much, sacrificed so much, and they'd finally found her, and...and mother wasn't there!

All the anguish, all the sadness, all the rage at being nothing but a puppet, being nothing but a tool to bring Mother back her Favorite, and he'd failed. He'd failed at the one thing he'd been created to do. All his roiling emotion welled within him, and he could no longer contain them. They burst forth in a torrent of anger, dispair, and shame, a bitter cry, "Mother!"

And Kadaj curled in upon himself, curled around the vessel containing nothing but dead cells. And wept.

[While the image itself is blurred at first due to the movement of the device, all the blips and bloops, and digitized music along with the blurring, flashing lights and sounds of laughter, are reminiscent of an arcade. After the video halts, and the surrounding machines, a veritable Cornucopia of lights and sounds and people enjoying themselves, it's evident that is exactly what it is. An arcade. The video blurs again as the device is turned toward it's carrier, and Kadaj can be seen, looking amused, but also slightly confused.]

I know all of you can hear me, so tell me. Why do humans waste so much of their time here when all you get are these little pieces of paper? [He holds up a pair of carnival tickets, like the ones you get for high scores at the arcade games.] What are they for?
