Knitting and canning. Pioneer Jen?

The socks for mom are coming along nicely. I'm almost down to the toe on one, and on the other one I have turned the heel and am about to pick-up stitches for the gussets. When I get this second one to the same place as the first one, I'll take them over and make her try them on before I finish the toes. (Otherwise I'm afraid I'll make them too long or too short for her feet!) So in other words: I could potentially finish them next weekend. It all depends on how much I get done today. The gusset of a sock is my least favorite part to work on. When they're done, I can work on something else...like socks for myself!

One of The Texan's friends showed up yesterday (to endlessly discuss his marital problems because his wife packed up their daughter and left town to go stay with her sister). So that prevented us from canning the 30 pounds of tomatoes on our kitchen table. Grrr. So we've got to can those today, and by the time I go harvest today's tomatoes from the garden, it will be more than 30 lbs. My prediction is 34. So I wonder how many quarts of tomatoes that will be? (EDIT - Just finished stuffing jars. It was 14 quarts again, but I stuffed the jars tighter than last time. The first 7 jars are in the pressure canner now. So as of right now, I've got 28 quarts of tomatoes put away for winter! That's a LOT!) They're a low juice, low seed variety similar to Roma, so they go a long way when you're canning. And we're canning them whole, raw, and peeled, so we're not cooking them down to sauce first. I bought a pressure canner so today will be very different from canning last week with the old fashioned pioneer method. I need to buy or make a canning shelf to store all these jars.

I'm starting to feel pretty stressed because the kiddo's 6-month-scans are just a few weeks away. Aug. 12th!
