Finally, I got myself a coat that I love. It's been at least ten years since I bought a coat and in that time I've put on quite a few pounds. That coat is still beautiful and in great condition, it's just not comfortable any more.
MIL gave me a nice winter coat from Columbia Sportswear for Christmas. It's comfortable and great for walking, but doesn't feel good in the car. Dontcha hate how, when you sit in a car, your coat bunches up around your midsection? Mine sometimes even bunch up around my throat. They bind at the shoulders or hips. Not enough coats are made with two-way zippers so you can have room to sit in them. Instead they either bind your hips or bunch up around your waist.
These were my criteria for buying a coat for myself: black or dark brown; wool or leather; double-breasted; mid-thigh to mid-calf; swing style. I found my dream coat at Younkers. Originally $200, it was marked down to $80, so I put it on my store card (which will be paid off with two payments). It's a black wool double-breasted pleated-back swing coat. My new coat passed with flying colors today. Sitting behind the steering wheel was comfortable and warm, with no binding anywhere. There's plenty of fabric in the front to split and still cover my lap when I sit. I love that coat.
