This is really easy.
Take any recipe you have for soup or stew--knock yourself out and do a fabulous job that even your Grandmother would admire. Once it's done, realize that there's no starch in it. As it cools before refrigerating, add enough white rice to absorb the liquid. Promptly refrigerate your concoction.
When you take it out the next day to serve, realize that the rice never absorbed the liquid. Slap that puppy right back on the stove top and boil the snot out of it.
Go do something else and forget about it.
Wander back into the kitchen some time later and realize you've boiled the snot out of your soup. Promptly remove it from the heat and try to cool it quickly in the fridge.
Go do something else.
Return sometime later to check on your concoction. Realize that rice is now the main ingredient and all the fresh vegetables you added are now mush. Sigh heavily and serve with a fork, making apologies to your family.

Seriously, it turned out pretty darned good, all things considered, and I made it from scratch (sort of). I bought a hot rotisserie chicken and removed the meat from the bones. Boiled the snot out of the carcass for what must have been 4-6 hours. Got a really nice milky broth out of it--exactly what I wanted. The end result has been very healthy and good for the DH, who has been laid up sick for a week.
