I cried when Kevin told the boys his mom was taking home a ghost.

But I'm more heartbroken over the fact that there are way too many people on my flist that they are afraid of post their own reactions to the episodes in their own journals

I'm not surprised that Sam would lie. It was an emotional moment with Kevin. You don't want to disappoint a kid when you feel responsible for the fact that he's dead( despite what he just told you). You lie to get out of the moment. It's too soon for Sam to deal with all of this. He's been through so much. He will. And he does love Dean ( he came running when Dean called for help at the beginning of the episode ). But you can't resolve these things too quickly.

YES YES YES. I'm so glad I'm not the only one to notice that! And in The Purge, when he got that call from Dean and thought he was in trouble--impatience hit only after he realized Dean wasn't hurt.

You are so absolutely right; both of them are dealing with overwhelming things, and the really heartbreaking part is that they're not able to deal with them together (although that's precisely because some of it is caused by the other, because I think part of Dean's issue is him still being mad/feeling betrayed because Sam didn't look for him).
